  • ALL THE BOOKS 📚.
It is Tuesday people! I hope you had a truly lovely Easter weekend and that you spent the time doing whatever you wanted/ needed to.
📚.
Today’s #bookstamumsapril19 prompt was ‘All the books’ and I decided that another Potter post was in order. It’s the perfect opportunity to showcase some of these absolutely LUSH Potter-inspired candles from @bookishburns 😍. Fay does an incredible job so make sure you check out her Etsy (link in her bio) and use my code MUMMY10 to save at the checkout 😘.
📚.
QOTD: What are you totally obsessed with right now? What can’t you get enough of?... for me it is #gameofthrones !

  • “We're all monsters, Nadya, some of us just hide it better than others." —Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. If you could choose one character to take home to meet your family, who would it be and why?! .
.
Wicked Saints by @glitzandshadows was such an amazing read! I’m loving the ‘question everything’ theme and this story definitely falls into that category. I highly recommend adding it to your tbr pile!
.
.
I’m recuperating from a 12 hour shift at work yesterday— one more day and I’ll finally have a couple days off to catch up with you guys! I’m so readyyyyy!

  • "READING IS A CONVERSATION. ALL BOOKS TALK. BUT A GOOD BOOK LISTENS AS WELL" ~ Mark Haddon.
.
If I was to ask a genie to grant me one "realistic" ability, it would be to enhance the pace of my reading. And by this, I don't mean having the capability to just flip the pages at a rapid pace. What I want is to effortlessly finish a book in a short time period yet still immersing myself into the pages. There's no use if you have little understanding of what you've read. But yeah, I'm such a slow reader. I buy a lot of books but plenty of them remain unread. My ADHD doesn't help too. I envy those who could finish a book in a single day because it usually takes me on average between one to three weeks to do the same.
.
Nowadays, I take every break from work to catch up on my reading. Plus, the introverted part of me needs to recharge and get away from people 😁. Solitude is a good thing! I've found this nice spot at Tamarind Square Cyberjaya which is quiet and has an abundance of nature. Quite fitting, seeing that yesterday was #EarthDay 🌏 and today is #WorldBookDay 📚!

  • PULICATION DAY:

After six years and 40 bloody drafts, a strange little war novel called BODIES OF MEN came into the world today. As usual, I thought a lot about how the day might happen; in the end it had its own way.
.
It started at dawn. There was a gorgeous blue sky.
.
The came lovely text messages and emails and posts and podcasts and tweets and Instagram comments - oh my, you all know the way to a writer's heart (and bones).
.
I went for a drive into the blue, along narrow country roads and passed windmills.
.
Checked out the streets of Crookwell.
.
Drove back to Goulburn, where, perhaps taking 'Pub Day' a little too literally, I had a beer with Drusilla Modjeska - chicken burger not pictured. A terrifically apt quote from her: 'The compensation of age for me has been to find that I'm no longer embarrassed by my own embarrassment. Foxes don't blush. Why should we?'
.
I staggered back to the house along my favourite lane.
.
My generous - and, in the case of muggins here, patient - publisher sent me a cocktail hamper, and it's taken all my willpower not to mix one up. (There's still time.)
.
And decent day must have a walk, so I walked up to the water-tanks on the edge of town, and then came back home.
.
Where there was a lovely light on the chook-house.
.
Now the day is almost done.
.
And BODIES OF MEN must find its own way too.
.
So many people to thank for helping me reach this point. Please know you are all utterly marvellous.

  • [Book Review|| Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance]
"If the rules are such that you can't make progress, then you have to fight the rules"
.
.
.
It's an inspiring book about who Elon Musk is and how he got to where he is now. I have always adored Elon Musk's ideas. They are insane but at the same time cool! There has been a few times that i keep thinking "This guy is crazy!" while reading the book. I have always think of Elon Musk as a hard working genious. While reading the book, I realised he is more than that. The book tells the ups and downs he faced. He definitely didn't have it easy and his determination is worth admiring. And what I admire the most is the fact that he won't give up on his ideas even after so many people told him that it's impossible.

  • 𝐻𝒶𝓅𝓅𝓎 𝐸𝒶𝓇𝓉𝒽 𝒟𝒶𝓎! 🌍 What is something you do for the Earth? What are some of your favorite places on Earth?
•
🌙🌟🌙🌟🌙🌟🌙🌟🌙
•
I try to reuse and recycle. Lately, I've convinced my family to do so, even though it takes more effort where they live. •
•
I've lived in a city of 2.5 million and even 11 million (incl. suburbs, 25mil.) and could feel the pollution in the air (which is why so many people wore face masks). It's gotten worse in recent years. I had to check the air quality daily and often couldn't open my windows on nice days or avoid spending much time outdoors. On their part, recycling and composting are required (or you face a hefty fine).
•
I think the most eco-conscious city I've been was Ljubljana in Slovenia. They have a separate recycling bin for at least 5-6 different materials, all throughout the city and have even won awards for being such a green city.
•
While I LOVE the oceans and beaches, my absolute favorite places in Earth are the mountains. I never tire of their beauty. 🏔️ For the last 5 years, I've lived walking distance from some mountains. Although I would trek there, I do wish I would have done so more often.
•
🌙🌟🌙🌟🌙🌟🌙🌟🌙
•
I guess we should move onto the book? 🙈 Isabel Allende' House of the Spirits started off veeery slowly for me. In fact, I kept picking it up and putting it down throughout an entire year.
•
That must mean I didn't like it, right? NOPE. It took me a while (a very long while), but once I was immersed, I really loved this book. It's a family saga steeped in politics, rebellion, feminism, resilience, love, and a dash of magical realism (ghosts!). It was one of those stories that I'm happy I consumed slowly and really savoured. There were just so many layers, it's difficult to do it justice. It's now one of my favorite books; one of those that evoked so many emotions while reading. •
•
Considered to be one of the most important Latin American novels, I highly recommend checking it out. Allende's father won the Chilean presidential election in the 1970s and later killed during a coup against his government. This plays an important role in the book. •
•
Is there a book you slowly grew to love?
