A survivor of your own accord
Life allocated you pain which would make anyone else want to jump overboard
Mistreated by those who vowed to keep you safe
Feeling so hopeless, relocating from place to place
Traveled the seven seas
Only to be bound instead of being set free
Binding all your hopes into the idea of with time it will get better
Only to find with each new hurdle, life keeps getting harder and harder.
Tired of waiting for someone to come and rescue you
Deciding to be the hero you need to break through.
Working endless hours to build a better life
Hoping all this effort wouldn't end in strife.
A little girl who wouldn't go past the corner of her street
Is now a woman thriving in a foreign country. ~ Excerpt from "Mom"
you put on such a good show / i’d suspended disbelief, / and simply couldn’t know / the depth of what you felt / until i mentioned / loving someone else / and saw your hard swallow. / in that brief breath / i fell into your stream / all of me submerged, / the surface still / receding.
(Strange Roads - Part 1)
Joan took one last look at her notes, at the scrawl of dead languages that she had hastily transcribed after waking from the dream.
It had been so real. The tree rising like a thousand mountains. The sea stretching to infinity. The worlds stacked and overflowing.
The dark god hanging by his neck from a dead branch, whispering his lore to her across time.
She had woken in a fever, her hands marking the paper with the sacred words while the taste of ashes filled her mouth.
Her magic was usually weak, a shadow to conn rich folks to keep her comfortable.
Now it rolled through her like a wakened leviathan stirring the sea. She felt every cell of her body alive with the power.
It frightened her.
Excited and afraid, she took a deep breath and began to read the words aloud.
The walls blurred, her mind opened, and pain tore into her body with talons of fire.
Above her own screaming, she heard something else rising like smoke over her burning body.
It was the dark god, laughing.
The pain ceased. She opened her eyes.
(Continued in Part 2...)
Let me fly with you,
Far from society,
Let me love you,
So much that it scares you.
Let me hold you tight,
So tight that we become inseparable.
Ill send you roses when you’re happy or sad,
So you can remember that ill be there,
No matter your troubles.
