  • This year I've slowly begun collecting the beautiful handmade work of @caraedwardsdesign determined to replace our crappy crockery with beauties such as these, something fitting for our lovely new kitchen, amongst other talented local makers.
.
.
The Annual Cygnet Art Trail has been on this weekend, for the last two days. Cygnet being our hometown, is both on the water (Port Cygnet) and cradled within rolling countryside, it is both old farming families and full of creative folk and foodies. It's an easy 45 minute drive south of Hobart in a rather beautiful part of the world called the Huon valley, home to fruit orchards, namely apples and the mighty Huon River. This Easter, the valley is full of locals and visitors wandering our quaint main street and driving between weaving studio's, potter's workshops, cake tin makers and wood wizards, perusing stunning paintings by local artists @huonart , all manner of artistic pursuits are explored here, from musicians to wooden boat builders to chocalatier's to cheesemakers. .
.
We are, no doubt, spoilt for choice. It is, in truth, a large reason we chose Cygnet in the Huon, it had the best of both worlds, the sea/river and countryside, the wilderness and farmland, a haven for food and booze producers and the subsequent eateries that showcase them, both a rich indigenous and convict settler history with a touch of the bohemian too in more recent times and an even newer wave of tree changers or better known by real locals as "blow-ins" and "mainlanders", whom they suffer albeit very politely as we fumble our way through the kind of lifestyle they've been living a lot, lot longer, the diversity of community, ensuring a robust economy, & artisan and produce scene long into the future. I love that we can wander through town these days, Wednesday on a lead, stopping every few paces to chat with friends, meeting family for coffee, watching tourists visit our markets and shopfronts, purchasing beautiful wares and locally grown food. It's what we'd hoped for in this new country life we went after 7 years ago and it takes time to feel part of the fabric of a place but once you do, it's hard to imagine ever living anywhere else. 💚

  • If you were following along with my stories the other day, you saw us complete this painted tile project. It was inspired by @hilaryduff’s kitchen and I’m SO happy with how it turned out! In total this cost around $8-$10 (and it was all supplies I already had) and it COMPLETELY changed the vibe of this space 👌🏼 I’m feelin’ it
