  • What a gorgeous image by @manpedfer! We love posting facts about the Kruger wildlife but just being there and witnessing nature in all its glory is a big part of Kruger’s spectacle. And because the south of Kruger can get a little busy at times, it is easy to forget there is actually more than 3,500km of road in the park, accessible to all visitors, and even if you drove it all, you’d still only see about 3% of the park! We are always broken-hearted to leave!

  • Photo by @kengeiger | Coming face-to-face with a leopard is a safari lovers dream. Kruger National Park in South Africa is a short five-hour drive from Johannesburg. While on assignment for National Geographic Traveler, we wanted to debunk the high cost of the safari experience. For a mere $150 a day, in Kruger you can self-drive the well kept roads all while having a front-row seat to viewing cheetah, lions, elephants, and more. #explorenature #leopard #krugernationalpark To explore more images of the #Africa follow @kengeiger.

  • Ah not gonna lie I have been feeling hugely homesick lately and maybe it’s because my gran isn’t doing great and I so feel like I should be there but also just look at these is it any wonder why people fall in love with Africa when they go and visit! I am so immensely blessed to have grown up in a country and seen such beautiful wildlife just n my doorstep!

Here is my advice if you’re thinking of going on holiday this year consider this amazing country go and see some of the amazing wildlife up close and personal experience the African sun beating down on you, some of the best food and wine this world has to offer and some of the most friendly people you have met... I don’t think you’ll regret it.

  • Water Monitor - the largest of the lizard species in southern Africa. Obviously close to water 😅🤓but even at 1,5 meters they are accomplished climbers & will often bask on branches overhanging water, & simply drop down if threatened.
What makes them special is the fact that they are slow breeders for reptile standards and incubation can take 9-10 months 😌. Capable of handling a menu of other lizards, insects, young tortoises, small birds, snakes, carrion and pretty much anything they can fit in their mouth, they make for a formidable appearance.
The claws are designed for opening up prey, self defence & agility in escape. Not so well camouflaged as their smaller rock monitor cousins 🙈

  • This female Southern Masked Weaver flies up to inspect a nest that was actively being built by a male.
.
The male weaves a hoop, continuing to thread, knot and plait until his construction looks like an oval dome. When he is finished the residence, he advertises to potential mates with fluttering wings and song. The females can be picky and a male weaver may have to build several before a partner is satisfied enough to move in.
.
I think the female was intrigued as she spent a lot of time on top of the nest looking at his work as he was building it. I spent about 45 minutes watching him build the nest. Nature is fascinating.
.
Have you ever witnessed a nest being built?

  • This will always be one of the most beautiful and heartwarming videos ever 💕
This is the touching moment Dr. JaneGoodall receives a hug of thanks from the Chimpanzee called Wounda who she nursed back to health from near death. In this clip Wounda, who has been successfully rehabilitated, is being released back into the wild
