The first reptile-of-the-week is the Leopard Gecko, or scientifically known as Eublepharis macularius. These geckos get their name from their wild type coloration which consists dots that are very similar to that of a gecko.
Many geckos are arboreal, meaning they like to climb and prefer a tall tank over a wide one. However, the leopard gecko is a ground dwelling gecko. To add to this, they have the ability to blink which is unique because many geckos' eyelids are sealed shut over their eyes which means they cannot blink.
Leopard geckos are very popular pets and for various good reasons. They are easy to breed which means that they are very available. Also, they require a very simple setup. The gecko as well as the setup is very affordable and the gecko is easy to care for. Handling them is a great experience as well because these geckos are easy to tame and they are calm, too!
