There's a certain point during a receding tide when the water breaks high and lingers over the coastline. It's a point when you might notice you're no longer walking on sand and stone - but instead, you'll find, you're now within the clouds. As castles made of sand, drift slowly into the sea.

This time in 2017, I was packing up for a month in Beijing!
· · · ·
Saw @offmia this past week & we went through photos from that month & reminisced (which is inspiring me to post some I didn’t originally post!) This day heading to the Great Wall was one of my favorites!

Exploring a new country with locals is such an amazing way to see a place, you learn all the best kept secrets really fast.

Have you been to the Great Wall?

Out to the edge of the islands. Stacks on the horizon and gulls in the breeze, seals in the shallows and air in our lungs. This is where we live (and why we live here). 🌊

When I tell you this was the nerdiest day I ever participated in 😂 If you don’t know I’m a HUGE LOTRs fan, much to the encouragement of my dad 😏The films and Papa J are accredited for so much of the reason I went into movie making as a career. New Zealand is the unofficial official middle earth, and the fields behind me, located just outside the small town of Twizel, were the set for the battles of Gondor in the trilogy. Dad and I went on a tour of these fields complete with prop swords, armor, and flags. Oh the geeking out is almost too much to bare 🙈 Get a glimpse of all the commitment in the story highlights but to feel a part of the same movies that are basis of my career path was an especially wonderful experience.
I always remember small details. Small fragments that become mosaics. Complex games of colors and shapes. The sound of water panting under the thick layer of ice, which seem to be clapping, slapping. The light of your smile that disguises itself with the morning rays.
You don’t have to know what comes next. You don’t have to have everything figured out right this second. You don’t need to know your entire story. You are a living, changing and growing soul riding through your unique and beautiful journey of life. And that’s exactly what it is- a journey- and it wouldn’t be a journey if you knew everything that was coming next. It wouldn’t be a journey if you knew how it would all turn out in the end. So be patient with yourself and smile at the not knowing, because your story is just starting to be written.
I take my pics during my trips and slowly post them after I return to America. I realise China is fighting a serious virus now.
I wish all my Chinese friends good health and I hope everything returns to normal very soon.
