  • "There is that in the glance of a flower which may at times control the greatest of creation’s braggart lords."- John Muir. It has now become a morning ritual, that before the sun rises high in the sky, while the tree line still casts shade upon my backyard, when the air is cool and the grass wet with dew, I walk in silence among the things that grow, surveying, learning, yearning. There is so much to see - the buds of yesterday that've bloomed today, bare ground now sporting green, insects so tiny that you have to squint to see, crawling their way up every leaf, playing their part being prey and predator. I've become attuned to the birds' feeding times and the brown cat from some neighbor's house that comes at exactly that time to prey on these birds, to no avail, coz they always sense him coming and fly off to the highest perch on the pine trees dotting the fence line. The birds, they seem to have struck a deal, for all the seeds that they spill from the rodent-proof feeder, the squirrels scavenge off the floor, leaving no mess. And in return, I've always noticed a flurry of squirrels just before the cat arrives, almost like a warning shot for the birds. As I sit here watching this action unfold, I cannot help but wonder: all of nature lives in perfect symbiosis, yet man grates against this grain: building fences and walls, setting traps, razing forests, killing for sport, ever growing like a plague destroying everything in his path. Why, I don't understand, when there is such joy to living with nature, than against it. I'll take dewdrops over diamonds, any day. Sneak peak of next week's recipe. Happy Weekend, folks!

  • Oyez! Oyez!

  • Continuing our Farm Fun Family Friday adventures, we grabbed a gallon of raw milk from #botexdairy our local raw milk dairy.
🐄🥛🐄🥛🐄🥛
Did you know that pasteurization kills not only potentially harmful microorganisms, but also helpful bacteria (think probiotics), enzymes, antibodies, and vitamins? In fact, if you have trouble digesting conventional milk, pasteurization could be to blame.
🐄🥛🐄🥛🐄🥛
Conventional milk is also homogenized. This is the processing of dairy that stops the natural process in which the cream raises to the top. This *can* lead to oxidation, which can cause cell damage in the body while also leading to faster spoilage time. 🐄🥛🐄🥛🐄🥛
What do you think? Are you pro-raw milk or con? Let's discuss why!

  • I’m fascinated by the way this 14” platter is crackling, like a tree growing it’s branches. this is technically bad, because it is tearing apart the porcelain, but so pretty to watch-new crackles form every day. this happened because this glaze fired to a higher temperature than it should have been.
