A double header consisting of a Challenger and a Big Boy, make a run for the hill. The first car has a wing load for an aircraft. January 08, 1956. 63 years after this photo was taken and @uprr will again be giving us the opportunity to see a lashup like this. The steam schedule for 2019 is out.
Today I'm setting up one of the cylinder castings to drill the passage into the bottom of the exhaust port. This drilling will intercept the previous one. I have a CAD model of the cylinder casting which informs all of these critical position and angle settings. Critical, in this context is not ultra precision; all of the dimensions have lots of margin for error. Critical, is not to mess up. Without the CAD model and the ability to set an angle, it's pretty easy to get this wrong in a bad way! #modelengineering#machinist#instamachinist#hole#drilling#passages#cylinders#bronze#steamengine#steam#railway#locomotive
Though a highly edited picture, this one enframes a very special spotting for me, as this is probably one of the oldest locomotive I've ever captured during my life as a railfan. Also, I was graced by its first sight on a very special day for me!
Eventhough smeared entirely with oil and an unpleasant sight for many, it holds a special place within me for all these reasons.
A WDM-2 (now condemned) from the DLS, Mughalsarai (MGS/ECR) enters into one of the PFs of the Gaya Junction to perform its share of shunting duties, for which it was degraded after the completion of its service life for mainline duties, as many of its breed have faced or are now facing this.
A nice Q403 screams westbound through Woodbourne, PA on 03-20-2019 during the last couple hours of winter, before the early-evening switch to Spring. A YN2 AC400CW and a BNSF GEVO pull on the head end, with some interesting rolling stock in tow. #trainiac
