I read a quote (which y'all have to know by now I love quotes) that read, "thank God we don't look like what we've been through." It made me think of this magnificent tree that had been struck my lightning and while part of itself was missing, it still grew and stood tall in all its glory.
If that's not proof enough to be proud of what you've been through and survived, I don't know what is.
Happy birthday to my most favorite cowgirl in the world. Ashley is a well of strength, courage, determination, faith, love, and spirit! Plus, she's just a bad ass overall. Love and miss you Tater - happy birthday!
No fancy post today. Just got off work. Yes, it's 7 p.m. on Friday. Sitting in the backyard, enjoying the company with Mama D, cool breeze, adult beverage, dogs playing, and admiring the signs of spring.
This is from one of my readings tonight and I really have to reflect on MY plans, dreams, and goals and what God has intended for me. What a beautiful quandary to be in...and what an amazing journey he has planned for me.
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord … “(Psalm 37:23)
Another way to look at this is that a step is one day in your life.
What this means is that God now has each day of your life perfectly planned out for you to the day that you depart from this life. You are now on the yellow brick road with the yellow color now being the light of God Himself.
Your job is to now live each day to its fullest, always trying to do the best at whatever God will be calling you to do for Him on that particular day.
If you can learn how to keep this kind of mindset, you will be less likely to throw pity parties when things do not go the way you think they should." #lostonthehorizon#lostonthehorizonphotography#bwphotography#savethecowboy#westernlife#cowboys#cowboylife#boots#spurs#scripture

It's no secret to anyone who knows me that New Orleans is one of my favorite places. A few years back, I was there for work. Sitting on the riverwalk, I look up to find this young man, simply strumming and humming to noone in particular. I have to admit, I sat staring longer than I probably should have.
A snippet from a story I wrote:
❤❤❤ "The horse is the whisperer's spirit animal. It is where he finds his peace. His calm. It is the place where he lays down his brokenness, his fears, his weary soul. It is where hope, joy, peace, strength, courage, happiness, and laughter or unlocked. It is where he remembers the man he's always been, the man he has been created to be. It is the mutual understanding he and the horse had that draws them to each other. The horse promises to keep the whisperer safe while the whisperer promises to keep the horse wild." (C) Michelle A. Today is #nationaldayofthehorse and what better way to celebrate then one of the shots from my "I'm just stopping for 20 minutes - 3 hours later, turning a 5 hour trip into an overnight one" photos.
Last fall, I was able to see a few horses of one of the wild mustang herds, up close and personal. And by up close and personal, I mean I was sitting on the ground as quiet as could be for what seemed like eternity, and two of the most beautiful creatures I have ever seen came up to me. They posed, played, ran, and drank from a small puddle of water next to me. After an hour of their shenanigans, they decided they were finished with me and moved onto "greener" pastures. Short of walking in a second line in New Orleans, dancing and singing to the Saints Go Marching In, this was probably one of the most "spiritual" experiences I have ever had. "Horses are mirrors to a man's soul. They'll show you back whatever you show them. Watch a man with a horse, and you'll see what's inside his soul.
The same could be said for a woman's heart. It mirrors what is inside a man's soul, often times unknown even to him."

When I'm not taking photos or sewing wildrags, I'm humbled to be able to work with Warrior Cry Music Project (@warriorcrymusicproject)- a grassroots non profit dedicated to helping our soldiers and veterans overcome physical, mental, and emotional wounds through music.
Last week while in Kansas, a music based foundation donated a trailer full of gently loved guitars and amps. We're on the road back to Texas and excited about finding homes for them!
Oh....this picture just melts my heart. The world's sweetest dogs. Seriously. “Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace.” ― Milan Kundera
