I can't even remember the last time I pulled out of a race it's been that long but yup, 1 lap in & I was kicking myself for even starting the 1st round of the British series in Sherwood Pines.
I had to have follow up rabies vaccinations last week after being bitten by a dog in Turkey, 1 in the right arm on Tue & 1 in the left on Friday. By Thursday my right arm & wrists in particular were pretty sore but I thought I'd just slept funny & even got a solid training session in. By the time I had my 2nd vax, my right side fingers were swollen and most of my joints were now hurting with the left side catching up. By the time I drove to Sherwood on Saturday my rings were stuck on my fingers from the swelling & all my joints were in pain. But when you drive nearly 5 hours to race, it's really difficult to say nope, this is not right, I should turn back. I checked in with the medical tent who said... Yes Rabbies vax are full on, you shouldn't even be here but still I'm thinking och, it will be fine 🤦 By Sunday morn I can barely dress myself my arms & body are so sore, my head is now hurting & I'm really feeling poorly but yup... I'll be fine I think.... Hah... What an idiot eh. 1 lap of pain, no power and fingers that are struggling to brake was enough 😥 hugely disappointed in myself for being so foolish but as always, still learning things the hard way. So here's a genuine smiley picture taken by @jamesmitchell5 to hide the flatness of failure 🤪 can anyone please tell me if they've had similar reactions to rabies vaccinations and how long it takes to get over ?! On the plus side, I got a lot of nice hugs, I saw a lot of cool people, Scottish cycling & all the peeps attached were ace at helping me and it was still a nice time seeing people race & being around cyclists. 🙌 #misadventuresofabikeracer#anotherchapterforthebook#lovetorace#lochduart#madisoncycles
What a perfect day for a race and team workout. While our MTM team that wasn't racing the #HotDash5k /10 mile we did our workout on West River Road and cheered on all the runners.
Our MTM team that did run the race, crushed the race and set many new PR's. Congrat's to"
San Jose Super and Sprint weekend. It’s hard to explain the pride I have in my races along with the disappointment. Both days I ran honestly some kick ass races but one little mistake both days kicked me down from 3rd to 5th. Saturday the hills and carries were my bitch but a slippery Olympus made me miss the bell by about an inch. Sunday it was caked on mud at the z-wall that made for a careless slip.
BUT and this is a big BUT... I raced better than I ever have at these short distances. My strength training w/ @walt_g is definitely paying off and my confidence through obstacles was night and day to what it used to be.
I’m really happy and proud of the progression my racing has made. Saturday I was the first non-pro to finish and I held pace w/ some chicks I never thought I could.
