Happiest of 6th Birthdays (one day late) to the highest maintenance, most protective and neurotic member of our family. Maeby Elizabeth Kuchey you are loved through all your trauma. #maeby#arresteddevelopment
Now that my book project is done, it is time to work on a personal project and fill up my portfolio! They say to draw what you know. This is our dog, Mabel.... who we sometimes call "Maeby" - she's the cutest and she needed to be drawn.
Nothing like a nice, tranquil foot-in-mouth after a long day at her regular recheck appointment! To see her currently, she’s looking a bit rough. With kidney disease, most say that limiting protein in their diet will help slow the progression of the disease by limiting the workload on the kidneys. I don’t really believe much in restricting protein. I believe in managing phosphorus and only having high quality protein sources in the diet. For a time when Maeby went to Purdue, they talked me into starting her on a low protein diet. But then she began losing weight. She’s now 2.1 lbs. she’s half the Maeby she is supposed to be! Her spine is very pronounced and that is bc she has lost so much muscle mass which I believe is in large part due to the restriction of protein. I’ve been switching her diet up and hoping to get her to put at least a lb back on, but that’s hard to get back once it’s gone! But! Aside from her being tinier than tiny, she still eats like a champ! She prances around and barks for dinner just like always! Her blood pressure is still normal, and her heart still sounds great! Her color is kind of crappy, but we already know that’s bc she’s borderline anemic (kidneys produce the hormone called eyrthropoietin that stimulates red blood cell formation in the bone marrow). We gotta wait for her bloodwork results to come in still so we can make any medication adjustments! Her doctor is pretty surprised at how well she’s doing. He even knows she’s a bit of a majestic creature, and not even he can explain some of the weird things her little body does! The abnormal and unheard of is the norm for my little one! I’m so thankful that she’s feeling so good! I’ll do everything under the sun for her to stay as healthy as possible! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ keep praying for her! Bc it’s been working! 🥰 #chihuahua#dogsofinstagram#kidneydisease#maeby#prayers#ckd
