I honestly couldn’t believe how nervous and all over the place I was last night. Before I left @marlonwayans told me to keep going, be encourage, and don’t give up on myself because I have a true talent. Thank you so much for the reassurance.
The Wayans Family has been a brand name since the 90s. We know the shows and movies. But I still don’t think they get credit as an entire family for how iconic they really are... let’s fix it!
Howell Wayans meets and marries Elvira Green. Howell, as a supermarket manager and Elvira as a social worker, make $12,000 a year and live in a tiny apt in the Robert Fulton Projects in Manhattan, NYC. Despite financial and racial struggles, they have their 1st child in 1956, Dwayne, followed by 9 more: Keenen. Deirdre. Damon. Kim. Elvira. Nadia. Devon. Shawn. And Marlon
12 moufs. You don’t need an upside down calculator that spells “BOOBLESS” to know that cost. Like most Black families, the Wayans struggled. But what they lacked in money, they made up for in comedic family movies
With a strict Jehovah’s Witness father and Mom Dukes who stressed education, the kids gradually (defiantly) picked up comedy and acting. Kim was big on plays, but Keenen was the first to jump ship into comedy. Following his role model, Richard Pryor, he dropped out of Tuskegee to move to LA for stand up. That bold decision against Moms wishes opened the door for a new family biz
Although I’m Gonna Git You Sucka (1988) was an underrated banger, the world was formally introduced to the Wayans through In Living Color (1990-1994). After that: Mo Money (1992). Blankman (1994). Low Down Dirty Shame (1994). Major Payne (1995). Marlon chose the fam over finishing at Howard. 5 years later he and older brother Shawn made The Wayans Brothers (1995-1999). Don’t be a Menace .. you know the rest (1996). Waynehead (1996-1997). Senseless (1998)
By the early 2000s, Scary Movie (2000) was a box office SMASH and the highest grossing Black directed film until Get Out. Add White Chicks (2004) and My Wife and Kids (2004) which Elvira wrote for. Kim also did a lot behind the camera writing and directing, and co-wrote a series of kids books, titled Amy Hodgepodge. Marlon is everywhere on Netflix right now
With over 30 years of writing, directing, and starring in over 45 hilarious and memorable shows/movies totaling a combined BILLION dollars - The Wayans Family is truly the most powerful family in Hollywood
Exactly! My sister loved Shawn & i was a Marlon junkie😍😂I wrote essays in elementary about this man.Drew pictures of he & i in crayon.Watched every show and appearance he ever did.The ONLY tall mf i ever had a crush on lol. #MarlonWayans
These brothers literally Infiltrated television in the early 90’s & with their success built an entire empire for their family to live off of. A great example of generational wealth. Black History for yo ass.
“I love you Harry. You make me feel like a person. Like I’m me... and I’m beautiful”
🎬 |REQUIEM FOR A DREAM| (2000)
Dir: Darren Aronofsky
Dp: Matthew Libatique
#DarrenAronofsky shot #RequiemforaDream like a hip-hop montage (a sequence of extremely short shots) to get the sense of overwhelming addiction and loss of control. An average 100-minute film contains 600 to 700 cuts; this one contains over 2,000.
Aronofsky asked #JaredLeto and #MarlonWayans to avoid sex and sugar for a period of 30 days in order to better understand an overwhelming craving. #DarrenAronofsky described this film as exploring different types of addiction: "The Harry-Tyrone-Marion story is a very traditional heroin story. But putting it side by side with the Sara story, we suddenly say, 'Oh, my God, what is a drug?' The idea that the same inner monologue goes through a person's head when they're trying to quit drugs and cigarettes, as when they're trying to not eat food so they can lose twenty pounds, was really fascinating to me."💉
