Whenever I have a less-than-satisfactory dining experience, most food IGers tell me that they simply wouldn't post about it. But as someone who's presumably following me to acquire a hopefully unbiased view, wouldn't you want to know too, if you were about to visit such a venue?*
'There is no bad dish, only many that are mediocre'. Yesterday I mentioned my experience at seafood-focussed Iki-jime was mixed: these four dishes (more than half of our order) were why. Flavours either weren't there (the John dory & 'prawn salt' chips), didn't quite hit the mark (the seaweed gnocchi & spanner crab), or weren't strong enough (the marron tart). Any of these dishes served at a restaurant without a famous name behind, at a 20% discount would be just fine, but these were 'just okay' - such is the burden of expectation. #ISHMelbourne#ISHIkijime
*Notwithstanding obvious subjectivity in talking about food (which, over time, is remediated when you follow someone for long enough and get to know where their views do/don't align with yours), as well as the inherent volatility in each diner's personal experience in visiting a restaurant.
