  • The angry black woman. The one society hates. The one who’s passion is misinterpreted as anger. The one who is hated globally yet loves everyone. The strongest woman standing as her pain is overlooked yet she stands strong. When she falls she gets back up. A queen

  • Saturday outfit board part 2. I’m not sure why my anklet went up my leg like that but at least I know to double check next time before I start taking pics. Because one thing I wasn’t about to do, is take these pictures again.

  • Today I woke up early in the morning, made breakfast for my kids and got them ready for school, as I do every day. Our housekeeper arrived and dropped them off at school as she does everyday. After she came back, I put my bathing suit on, got dressed and took a 5 minute bus ride down to Laginha beach. I went for a nice swim, something I had been wanting to do before my USA trip but didn’t get to. I was born on an island but I never learned how to swim. Since coming to CV and living here in São Vicente I’ve learned to swim a little. I am nowhere near an experienced swimmer and stay close to the shallow end, but it’s still a wonderful experience swimming in the ocean. One thing I did not know was how physically exhausting swimming can actually be. Maybe it’s because I’m a beginner. After 30 minutes I took the bus home, changed and continued my day. I spent most of the day reflecting and these are my final thoughts. I am grateful and so so blessed to be living the life that I live. A life that allows me to do the things that I do. It could be that tomorrow or next week, or anytime really I won’t be living the same life anymore. That is why it’s important to live in the moment, to live in the now. And to take time to reflect and give thanks for everything.

  • Here’s something interesting ... when I woke up this morning, for a moment, I thought it was Saturday but when I checked it was only Thursday. It was a major disappointment but I’m over it. I’m letting Thursday have its shine with a throwback post of my outfit from earlier in the week. *

  • Sleek ponytail was fun but the bangs are back! Here’s a cool story for you guys (lol.) Did you know that @vieirajjoao is responsible for my current hairstyle?(Yes! That’s right.) It was just another wash and retwist day for me when he noticed that I was twisting the front of my hair, “baby hairs” as they’re called, with the rest of my locs. He told me not to and suggested, instead, that I twist them separately making baby locs w/my baby hairs. I decided to give it a try. That was 2 1/2 years ago and today I have these bangs that I really love. And speaking of things that I really love, how cute is this skirt? It is a top 5 fav clothing item for me right now. When I came across this navy tank top last month this skirt was the first thing that came to mind. I thought they would go perfectly together for a monochrome look. How do you guys think I did? *

  • Ok everyone... for the first time EVER today I was able to do a “sleek ponytail” on my hair. I have been trying to and wanting to do this hairstyle for a while now but just couldn’t get the look that I wanted. The most I could get was a low ponytail but definitely not a “sleek” one. I was starting to wonder if it was even possible to do it on my hair. Then one day while scrolling through my instafeed, I saw a video demonstrating how to do this hairstyle. It turns out you have to tie your hair TWICE. At least the version in the video that I saw. Once for the sides then one more for the rest of your hair. I never knew this! Today I decided to give it a try on my hair and this is the result. It is my first time and I’m happy with how it turned out. I can’t tell you guys how hard I worked to get it like this but it was worth it! I will definitely be trying this hairstyle again with another outfit or for an occasion. This is my first try but certainly not my best try. Also you guys can’t see it but I’m wearing a black elastic headband to help keep my hair down.

  • Happy International Women’s Day everyone! Another day on the go for us over here. It will take me a couple more days to get back into my normal routine and that is ok! I have a stack of suitcases waiting for me to unpack, I’m back to work, I need to retwist my daughters’ locs, and start our home lessons again very soon. The good news is that I got a great night’s sleep yesterday and tomorrow is soccer Saturday!!! In the meantime I will have to put my time management hat on so that I can get everything that I need done and get back to my routine.

  • First day back and already out and about. Something about being back in 60 to 70 degrees weather, after enduring 4 weeks of New England winter, just wouldn’t let jet lag set in. Maybe later today or tomorrow I will start to feel the exhaustion from my travels. For today though, I took full advantage of this burst of energy, went out and got some things done! Also still loving the jeans and earrings I wore yesterday so I changed some things around, made a new outfit and wore them again!
