It has been a long journey for Melena and Tika, but an incredibly successful one. On behalf of the Ubuntu Wildlife Sanctuary, we would like to express our gratitude to the Municipality of Santiago del Estero, and more so in particular, Mayor Norma Fuentes (Municipality of Santiago del Estero) for entrusting us with the honorable task of giving them their ‘forever home’.
We would also like to thank Fernanda Navelino, and also Newport Cargo for stepping up to the demanding task of moving them across 8,400km to their new home at Ubuntu, South Africa.
Both Melena and Tika are alert, attentative, active and ready to be released into their night shelters.
Please note that they were not sedated throughout the 60 hour trip and will finally be able to experience grass under their feet for the first time tomorrow morning after having spent the evening in their night shelter where they are able to adapt to their surroundings.
We sincerely thank you for all the lovely messages of support we have received and will continue to update you on their progress.
