  • 🐙🥨🎢Day 2️⃣3️⃣ of #YogaKnot with @cyogalife ↪️ #EkaPadaRajakapotasana variation or #MermanPose or #MermaidPose 🎢🥨🐙 What I’m proposing today is a slightly friendlier version of Eka Pada Rajakapotasana or King Pigeon. Like today’s main pose, we’ll still be working an asymmetric backbend with a bind, but this modification is ideal for those that are not quite ready to ‘flip the grip’ and go for King Pigeon. Like so many of my other modifications, there are also stepping stones for this pose so that you can work your way up the ladder. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ll start today in #PigeonPose with the front knee bent and hip externally rotated and back leg extended straight back. Take a few minutes here to sink the hips into the mat since the lower body will have to be super stable before beginning to think about creating any fun shapes with the upper body. Use the muscles in the hip to externally rotate the front leg while actively extending the back leg. Ideally we want as much of the thigh (not the knee) in the mat as possible. When ready, bend the back knee bringing the heel toward the glutes. Engage the hamstring here and squeeze the leg in. If the right leg is back, reach back with the right to grab a hold of the right foot. If this is your edge for the day, stay here and work in grabbing the foot without letting the hips turn. If you’re ready to move on, wrap your hand around the outside of the foot and eventually hook the foot in the elbow crease. Sit up tall and extend the left arm to the sky to create length in the spine. Bend the elbow and interlace the left hand with the right. Continue lifting the sternum as you work deeper into the backbend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
