Intermittent fasts can be challenging and to a degree overwhelming the first few times that you try them.
Recognizing this, we often receive questions from curious IMFers who want to know a variety of things, one of the most common of which is what strategy is best for efficiently breaking a fasting window.
Although there’s no one size fits all approach to breaking a fasting window, hopefully these 4 simple steps help improve your own experience with this empowering lifestyle change!
1. Start with a small snack BEFORE you consume a large meal. You’ll be much less likely to overprepare the amount of food you “assume” you’ll want to eat and further much less likely to actually overindulge during that first meal post-fast as you won’t be as anxious having had a small snack already!
2. Chew everything slowly, deliberately and thoroughly. Don’t forget that regardless of your fasting window, it’s arguably provided your digestive system with more rest than it usually gets therefore it’s a smart plan to make certain that you’re not creating unnecessary stress by swallowing half chewed pieces of food.
3. Be aware of your water intake. It’s easy to forget about drinking water when you initiate your feeding window but recognize that staying hydrated is ALWAYS important. Getting into the habit of drinking a large glass of water before and after your post-fast snacks / meals is extremely beneficial!
4. Be patient. You know exactly where you’re next meal is coming from. This thought alone should be enough to reduce any irrational worry that you’re experiencing!
