Grandparents' ❤: 'Power Couple' 💪🏾🙏🏽
Today, we're sharing another amazing sketch by talented artist Baljinder Kaur @blahjinder - we love her art✏ The newspaper 'Des Pardes', shown in this sketch, was (still is) an old Punjabi paper that came to print in the 60s. My late nanaji (mum's father) used to read it eagerly cover to cover when he came over to the UK in the 60s - it made him feel connected to his motherland, India, and it has a sense of nostalgia for many Indians of that generation.
Mum saw this sketch and said it reminded her of parental/grandparent support and love through hard times (and they endured a lot), where simple pleasures and values powered our grandparents' generation through daily life. At the moment, my dadaji (paternal grandfather) is doing a lot of the 'powering' for my dadima who isn't too well💪🏾 - he's become quite an expert in the kitchen, a pillar of strength. Not everyone has a partner though, to power them through difficult times as they get older, like my nanima for example who was widowed fairly young. One always hopes that children, extended family, friends and the community (including amazing carers), provide that emotional, psychological and practical support.
Respect to anyone who 'powers' you through life if things have been difficult recently, through simple actions and kind gestures, encouraging words, making quality time to chat over chai, or powering you through with their company and practical assistance. Love and gratitude. Anni & Geeta 🙏🏽❤
Thank you @blahjinder for sharing such beautiful art on your page - always thought-provoking for us at dadima's 🙏🏽

4-5 weeks out. Chest and back days with @marvinliftspao
Always start with optimal posture to utilize the benefits of the majority of exercises. In order for the pectoralis (the chest) to maximize full activation and injury prevention, it needs to be in positions of horizontal adduction (Bringing the arm towards the center of the body), as well as scapula retraction and depression.
These include movements such as chest flys, crossovers, bench press, chest press, incline press. The shoulder blades need to be in a position where they are pulled back and down (scapula retraction and depression, thinking about squeezing a pencil in between your shoulder blades and pushing them down) that's when the chest will be able to maximize full activation.
If we are sitting for a long period of time and/or in a protracted position (I.e: rounded forward posture, kyphosis, upper cross syndrome, bad posture) the chest muscles will be unable to fully activate, thus the shoulder and other muscles will take the majority of the load and some become overactive while other weak muscles become underactive. I will cover more on this topic on a different post for corrective exercises for postural alignment to increase performance, maximizing quality technique, injury prevention, and optimization of posture to utilize in movements and improve overall health.
I don't always feel like doing it
I'd rather skip the gym or hit snooze or eat chocolate when I hadn't planned on it
The way our brain works, it will always try to convince us to take the easy way out
And that's fine
Listen to what it had to say, appreciate the nice wishes and for keeping humans alive, and do it anyways
Do it when you have a really good excuse not to .
Do it when you really don't feel like it
Do it until you just become the person who does it and it's automatic .
Do it anyways
