  • Located at a distance of 21 km from Kollur and 15 km from Nagodi village in Hosanagara taluk, Kodachadri is a mountain peak which forms a background to the famous temple of Mookambika in Kollur. There are different routes to reach the Peak of Kodachadri and the difficulty varies highly with respect to the route chosen. However it is challenging to reach the peak in monsoon due to heavy rains that make the routes slippery.

Kodachadri peak is connected with an all rough jeep road (partially metalled) on which only jeeps can travel. As this hilly road is not maintained properly, only expert local jeep drivers can take the jeep to the top. Jeeps are available for hire at Kollur and at Kattinahole village near Kodachadri base.

Trekking to Kodachadri peak starts from Nagodi village or Nittur, Shivamogga village which are located at the base of Kodachadri. Tented overnight Camping and Camp fire is strictly not allowed since January 2015, Once you enter the check Post in the foothill as this comes under the Forest Department, Govt. of Karnataka (Liquor will be detained at the Check Post). However, in case you need to spend a night on top you have inspection bungalow maintained by the government of Karnataka and a temple priest's house, with simple food on request. Best time to trek would be post monsoon, between September and March. It is recommended to avoid jeep trails during trekking, as the road normally experiences heavy vehicular traffic.

  • Kollur is a popular Hindu pilgrimage center located 40 km from Kundapur Town and about 140 kilometers from Mangalore. The village lies at the foot of the Western Ghats, and is famous for the Shree Mookambika temple, an important seat of Shakti worship. Kollur is situated on the banks of river sauparnika and surrounded by thick forest and has a natural formation resembling Sri Chakra. Kollur is one of the seven mukti places which were created by Parashurama. It is believed that ancient Rishies (Saints) have performed penance on this holy place. The main deity in the temple is the Jyothirlinga (Shiva linga). This Jyotirlinga is in front of the idol of the goddess Mookambika. A line of gold divides this linga into two unequal parts and is only visible in the light reflected sunlight pointed at the linga. The smallest portion of this right linga he would represent Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva (as conscious principles static) and larger left part, Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswathi and Goddess Parvathi (like the creative energy principles) 😇

  • At Sree Mookambika Temple, Kollur.
The lamp is lit and ready for the evening pooja. It’s amazing to experience, how the whole ambiance changes inside the temple as the dusk sets in, the twilight slowly fades to make way for the lights from these lamps. Slowly the music sets in transforming the whole place. You have to be there, in silence and you get the energy and focus for the days ahead.
This is not the case with temples, churches and mosques has its on unique aura, that has the power to transform ones life. We just have to be submissive and believe that we are nothing but a small particle in this whole system.

  • Though it was just an adavu and just a few lines of two keerthanam - I danced and sang my heart out at the Saraswati Mandapam.. The pictures aren't great but my emotions were on an all time high.. (things that old age does to you ;) :D)

You were there right in front of me akka, when I was self doubting.. just like how years back lil' Surya would search for akka through the crowd to get reassurance that this was going good. Swagata Sen Pillai

Vasantha Maami, my paatu teacher, I am sure you were looking down from heaven, smilingly - and correcting maitreem bhajata wherever lack of practice caught on :) I wouldn't have given this even a thought of attempting if it wasn't for your constant push and keen interest, Amma :) thank you! Malini Vasudevan Nair

Oh and the secret watcher.. you've won my heart Vimesh Rahul :) :) :) :) This post is going to be a reminder to myself about what a blessed moment this was!!
