~ I have about 3,747 plants 🌿🍃and am always in search of more. Ok well maybe not quite that many (yet)
~ I am obsessed with all fermented things, especially fermented drinks. ~ I’m fascinated by our brains 🧠and how insanely intelligent we all are as a species, especially with the things we aren’t even typically aware of
~I love watching and helping people overcome obstacles in their lives, whether it’s physical, mental, emotional, or a combination of all of them
~ And I am especially passionate about #bodyimage and the way our relationship with food can affect our lives. I am working to change all people’s relationship with food so their life can be fulfilled as it has been intended.

Now that you know all about me, tell me something I may not know about you! I’d love to hear how I can help you in your journey to your best self!

  • Chats after class today reminded me of this - our journey as mothers now is different to any other time. Similar but not the same as the previous generation. We face challenges that they did not. This isn’t to lament our position but honour its uniqueness - the skills we need now, the compassion for ourselves is what we need to recognize & address. I have created and grown a community of women at STRONG FIT MUMs to offer a place where women can be, just as they are. A space for women raising young families to reconnect with themselves & their bodies once more 💫

  • COMMUNITY IN LOSS⁣
⁣
This week I started coaching my first postpartum class since Elliot was born. It's been both triggering and healing. ⁣
We don't talk about loss, especially for as often as it happens. Through this process people have come out of the woodwork to offer love and support, or share their own experience of loss. Others have pulled away because I think they don't know what to do or say. ⁣
⁣
I want other womxn who've experienced loss to know that you are not alone. Your @birthfit community is still here for you, through the good times and bad. Your emotional support system and physical healing is just as important to me, even if or perhaps especially if, you've experienced loss. I can also say that this is perhaps not the view of society or everyone in the birth community, which has been distressing. ⁣
⁣
Which is why starting this year, if you've experienced ANY kind of pregnancy or infant loss and would like to take part in one of @birthfit_neportland's postpartum series, your fee is waived.⁣ ⁣
You are still postpartum, you are still a mother, you still are an incredibly valued member of our community and you are welcome here. ⁣
There's no time limit on this offer. Show up when you are ready. ⁣
Use discount code: UNITEDINLOVE when registering for any class⁣

•
Swipe to see photos and a video taken just this morning that clearly shows DIASTASIS RECTI (DRA) - or ab separation. This condition is not just common during and after pregnancy - it is inevitable. Doing things to mitigate how much separation you get while pregnant and doing your best to heal the condition after is important to regain strength and function.
•
Actually - did you know all humans were born with DRA? That’s right. And it naturally closes as we begin to connect with our breath and internal pressure system and go through the ideal developmental milestones (activating certain motor neural pathways): happy baby, rolling, crawling, bear, squatting, standing, and walking (and then running). We've got to have stability in order to add more complex movement.
•
As you can see with me, there is minimal separation and my abdomen is mostly symmetrical when at rest. However, it appears that as I crunch up, my DRA (separation and/or ridge) is concentrated around my belly button. This could be due to any number of things; not the point of this post. I check in with my body every 6-8 weeks to get an idea of how this is healing and progressing.
•
@streetparking knows the importance of healing DRA which is why we offer our Postpartum Bundle options. We pair Street Parking programming with modifications for pregnant and postpartum mamas with @birthfit Conscious Core Program, along with support from #birthfit regional director @care_o_leena On the Street Parking Moms Private FB Group. The 6 week Concious Core Program teaches a movement sequence that focuses on certain developmental milestones to be used daily and/or in warm ups. It’s a simple, efficient way for me to check in with my body, connect with my internal stabilizing system, and begin to initiate movement from my core. I know this sequence enhances my core strength and stability and is something I still add in almost 2

I’ve had baby Stash on the outside for as long as he was inside and I feel like I am just starting to come back to myself.
#
If you’re living and breathing BIRTHFIT alongside myself and countless other women, it can be so tough to remember that slow is fast because in our society, the immediate postpartum period is 6 weeks, when in reality it is at least 40 weeks.
#
Though the last 41 weeks have brought a joy and love into my life I had never known, it did not come without challenge and a shitload of mental, physical, and spiritual work!
#
Looking back on the past 9.5 months I am very proud of who I’ve become and where I’m going ...and that I did my first strict pull-up in over a year yesterday!
#
If you’re in the midst of the motherhood transition and are looking for support, PLEASE reach out... we gotta stick together and lift each other up! Thanks to everyone who has supported me, @michaelstanwyck, and Stash along the way 💛 📷: @saltyboyproductions

  • It’s true! Train for Motherhood with @birthfit_yyc
I’ll never forget my first CrossFit coach telling me we would be doing a #metcon. He looked super excited for me. He told me what we would be doing and set the clock. Do as many as you can in a certain amount of time, he said. My kiddo was 2 at the time.
I ran back and forth between the two exercises and sped through them like a CrossFit champ. And then he excitedly asked what did you think? Awesome hey?

My response......I fucking hated it. My life is one continuous metcon, the last thing I want to pay for is to do it during my own time. My adrenals were taxed, shit a lot of days they still are and my kiddo is 5 😳. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking CrossFit. I loved the power and Olympic lifting that stuff made me feel so empowered.
My point, training for Motherhood and postpartum has specific requirements to meet each Mother where they are at. Hence, @birthfit

  • When was the last time you took 60 seconds to look in the mirror and celebrate your body and all it’s amazingness?

No matter shape, size, marks, etc this is the only body you get.

Plus, in all honesty our bodies are pretty badass.

Take at least one minute to celebrate yours today. 💚✨

  • Oooo this week’s episode is on fire! We speak to @alexandrasacksmd , a reproductive psychiatrist and leading expert in “matrescence.” ✨

Have you heard of the term matrescence? The transition our bodies, minds, and lives do from conception and into motherhood?
✨

If you haven’t heard of these terms, you've definitely felt them and Alexandra puts words and solutions around them all. This episode will light you up and give you real tools for navigating the emotions and changes in motherhood. ✨

We loved this episode because: * Alexandra highlights the need for self-care and community in order to have a healthy mental state so you can show up as your best self in motherhood.
* Alexandra dives deep into the unsaids around all the unspoken changes that happen in motherhood.
* Alexandra explains what is going on with your body, how you are not alone, and how you are doing it perfectly right!
✨

We’re excited to share her wisdom with you! We certainly got a lot out of this episode! #applepodcast #applepodcastapp #mompodcast #matrescence #momlife #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodtransition #becomingamother #applepodcasts

  • Active Hang in the Motherhood Transition - keep an eye on my midline throughout this video.
.
In the beginning of the video, I am fully relaxed hanging from the bar. From there, I engage my lats, scaps, quads, glutes and core. Diaphragm stacked over pelvic floor & IAP. There is no coning present.
.
Next, I relax fully again and engage, however, this time I am in a very slight “hollow body” position - my diaphragm is not stacked over my pelvic floor. Check out my midline. What do you see? Coning. This is not an effective position for me to be working from. This is a position that I have worked from all my life in gymnastics. This is the position that strict toes to bars start from. This is a position that is passed through in all kipping and butterfly movements. You now have a visual of why this isn’t effective. And thus, I don’t plan to hang out there at this time.
.
Last, I relax again, reset to position #1 and begin my reps of scapula pull-ups from that effective position. No coning during the hang, concentric or eccentric portion of the movement. Solid & strong 💪
.
If you are in the Motherhood Transition (preconception through postpartum) are you in a community with coaches that understand this very subtle, but important difference? If not, but you would like to be, please reach out to me 🤗

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
✨ 𝗠𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 ✨
✨✨✨TRAINING ✨✨✨ Pregnancy and postpartum are such amazing chapters in our lives. Our bodies go through incredible changes during this time, but many women try to rush back into the gym without knowing HOW to ease back in safely. Postpartum is a gift. It’s a time to reconnect with your core and set the foundation to come back as an even stronger version of yourself.
💛
Benefits of this class during pregnancy: - You are about to enter the most important workout of your life. We want to help prepare you and strengthen you for this! During this course you will learn: - how to properly connect with your core - exercises to help strengthen your pelvic floor - educate you on how to prevent problematic diastasis recti (ab separation). - educate you on what exercises should be avoided during this time and what exercises will benefit you.

  • We’re on the same page as @birthfit_wisconsin. While speaking at #mops in Grand Forks today we focused on nurturing the mother during the fourth trimester, & building a wide net of support is critical to success! ・・・
// POSTPARTUM //
Let's chat postpartum team. This is often overlooked and as a local postpartum mama recently mentioned "the six week follow up visit felt like a joke." We know that it takes a collaborative team of professionals to care for the physical and emotional obstacles of postpartum.
You will need a chiropractor and physical therapist versed in musculoskeletal care for the postpartum woman, a coach that knows how to properly train a woman to recover from birth, lactation support and a therapist to navigate the transitions and transformations that the #motherhoodtransition brings, and a community of support that you can call upon to be your village as you are raised as a mother and grow through guiding your children, connecting to self, partner, spirit, and all relationships that are still 'for you' in this life.
Pregnancy and birth are temporary. Postpartum is forever.

  • Hi! I’m Dr. Mackenzie Smith. I am a chiropractor by trade but am passionate about how the entire body and mind work together as a unit. I want to help YOU achieve the best possible physical and mental health I can.
Here’s a few facts about me you may not know of (yet!): ~ I grew up in the Finger Lakes Region of Western New York, where summers on the lake kayaking, fishing and enjoying the outdoors were a must
~ I have a niece and a nephew who are 3 and 1, and they’re some of my favorite people! I miss them every single day. ~ I work @trianglecrc with some incredible people I am privileged to call my colleagues and great friends
~ I am a #birthfitprofessional and passionate about helping women going though the #motherhoodtransition 🤰🏻🤱🏽
~ I have just become a #beautycounterconsultant so would love to help you on your journey to better beauty and safer products for you and your family!💄💋
~ I am fascinated by the Spanish language and Central and South American culture 💃🏼
~ I love working out @crossfitrdu and am currently training for the #peaktobrew running relay in August💪🏻🏃🏽‍♀️
~ I love working with all athletes, especially #runners 🏃🏻‍♂️👣
~ I am obsessed with #foothealth and the intricacies of human feet because they’re AMAZING.🦶🏼🦶🏼
~ I have a #rescuepit named Lola who I absolutely adore. 🐶

Cheers 🤗

  • I didn’t lift much before I had kids. Since kids I’ve learnt a lot about this body when it’s been at its very weakest and from that place, a new Woman has been forged. One who knows what it is like to be lost, disconnected (hello #abseperation), full of fear and doubt. And I trained from there. The journey has not been linear - each twist & turn has added complexity. The layers of knowledge have given me a humbling respect for all Women who tread this path of physical reconnection and the relationship they have their bodies post kids. It’s a powerful thing. And I believe it’s a vital part of a Women’s transition not only into Motherhood but into the evolving state that is womanhood. Get curious. Explore more. Challenge yourself (& it’s not just about lifting - any purposeful style of movement of your choice is ‘the work’)

  • Taking some time this morning to reflect and reframe some of my recent thoughts. Feeling overwhelmed and extremely emotional lately and I know it’s mostly due to all the pressure I’m putting on myself (something I swore I wasn’t going to do after Sophia was born). So here’s to a morning of slowing myself down, enjoying all the baby snuggles AND coffee!

  • One thing we will discuss in the upcoming BIRTHFIT Prenatal Weekend Intensive (our birth education course) is a Postpartum Plan! 🔑💚 #
@birthfit_wisconsin・・・
// POSTPARTUM //
Let's chat postpartum team. This is often overlooked and as a local postpartum mama recently mentioned "the six week follow up visit felt like a joke." We know that it takes a collaborative team of professionals to care for the physical and emotional obstacles of postpartum. You will need a chiropractor and physical therapist versed in core and pelvic floor, a coach that knows how to properly train a woman to recover from birth, an energy worker and/or therapist to navigate the transitions and transformations that the #motherhoodtransition brings, and a community of support that you can call upon to be your village as you are raised as a mother and grow through guiding your children, connecting to self, partner, spirit, and all relationships that are still 'for you' in this life. Pregnancy and birth are temporary. Postpartum is forever. Tag your team 👇

  • Ladies, whether you’ve had a baby or not. Whether you lift heavy weights or not. Whether you’re 25 or 75, it’s not “normal” to pee your pants. ...
...
Posted @withrepost • @birthfit_nashville I wanted to cry you guys... it was on my 40-something-th rep of double unders. I was in total denial... no that’s not... surely it can’t be... until there was no mistaking exactly what “it” was.
...
...
After a brief pity party and a frantic text to @birthfit_wisconsin I took a breath and realized this is just FEEDBACK. My pelvic floor is not quite ready to meet the demand of that many reps of that particular movement, and that’s OK!
...
...
So what’s next? I’ll be giving @aimee.bailey.dpt a call to have her check my pelvic floor muscles and I’ll hold off on double unders for now. #postpartumhealing#birthfitnashville#motherhoodtransition#fitness#nutrition#mindset#connection#slowisfast#birthfit
  • Ladies, whether you’ve had a baby or not. Whether you lift heavy weights or not. Whether you’re 25 or 75, it’s not “normal” to pee your pants. ...
    ...
Posted @withrepost@birthfit_nashville I wanted to cry you guys... it was on my 40-something-th rep of double unders. I was in total denial... no that’s not... surely it can’t be... until there was no mistaking exactly what “it” was.

  • Your body is amazing! Your body does amazing things for you all. the. time! Your body communicates to you when you are experiencing dis-ease. Your heart beats without you even telling it to on a conscious level. Before you even consciously know you're pregnant, your body goes to work producing hormones and manufacturing a placenta. Before you even know you've encountered a virus, your body is going to work to fight it off. 💪 ❓What amazing thing has your body done for you today? For what would you like to thank your body today?

  • One thing we always discuss in the BIRTHFIT Prenatal Series (our birth education course) is a Postpartum Plan! 🔑💚

@birthfit_wisconsin・・・
// POSTPARTUM //
Let's chat postpartum team. This is often overlooked and as a local postpartum mama recently mentioned "the six week follow up visit felt like a joke." We know that it takes a collaborative team of professionals to care for the physical and emotional obstacles of postpartum. You will need a chiropractor and physical therapist versed in core and pelvic floor, a coach that knows how to properly train a woman to recover from birth, an energy worker and/or therapist to navigate the transitions and transformations that the #motherhoodtransition brings, and a community of support that you can call upon to be your village as you are raised as a mother and grow through guiding your children, connecting to self, partner, spirit, and all relationships that are still 'for you' in this life.Pregnancy and birth are temporary. Postpartum is forever. Tag your team 👇

  • Postpartum. Weeks 0-2 Coregulation. That looks like sleeping, resting, keeping my feet up, drinking bone broth and eating nutrient dense foods, hydration, teas, and lots baby snuggles and nursing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The goal is to let the body heal, produce milk and bond with baby. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Honestly it’s hard. I am a mover and doer. Just sitting around all day while the girls are at day care is hard but I’m trying. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This birth experience was totally different from my first two. It was unmedicated, fast and required no stitches (yay for no tearing). With the first two I had no to little postpartum recovery plans and really didn’t know I needed it. With Jamie I definitely did to much activity to fast, plus I had a third degree tear. I had to learn on the go to rein it back. With Kennedy I incorporated more rest and bone broth but we also moved when she was a month old so that immediate postpartum period was just different. With Liam I know more and can apply it to do better. The first two were not wrong just different. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What is important to you in the first few week of postpartum?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
