UPDATE: Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence is holding off shoulder surgery until he gets a long-term deal, per David Moore of The Dallas Morning News.
Lawrence, 26, played most of the season with a torn labrum and was planning to undergo surgery right after the 2018 season.
However, Lawrence is putting off the surgery as a bargaining chip in negotiations.
It’s worth noting that Lawrence will face a 3-4 month recovery, so the longer he waits, the more it jeopardizes his availability for Week 1 of the regular season.
The Cowboys were unable to finalize an extension with Lawrence before March 5th’s deadline, which resulted in them placing the $20.5M franchise tender on him for the 2019 season.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones acknowledged Lawrence’s decision to delay surgery and said it will not benefit him in the long run. “It’s just a given that you’d get the full year at top, physical condition,” Jones said. “If you don’t get that it depreciates what you’re doing.” The Cowboys and Lawrence remain “far apart” in contract talks and have not made any substantial progress in recent weeks.
The deadline for the Cowboys to get a long-term deal finalized for Lawrence is July 15th. If they are unable to do so, it’s likely that Lawrence will holdout of training camp and the preseason.
Lawrence started all 16 games for the Cowboys last season and recorded 64 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one recovery, one interception, and a pass defense.
In two playoff starts, Lawrence totaled nine tackles, three tackles for loss, and a quarterback hit.
The Cowboys currently have $22.215M in cap space, per OverTheCap.com.
I masked my pain for nearly a decade. I portrayed myself as someone who had it all together, because it's easier to do that than to face your struggles and tackle them head on.
I was numb to my pain, and to the world.
It wasn't until 8 months ago that I started to seek professional help and began my journey of healing. It hasn't always been rainbows and butterflies, but the growth and recovery I have endured within this time is unfathomable.
Don't skip your therapy appointments... keep on fighting. You can do this! You are worthy. Your mental health is so important, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. ❤️ #mentalhealthawareness
It is so important that as a Christian at work you’re sensitive to the voice of God and in position. Let me tell you about a miracle working God🙏🏽
Last year a co-worker needed assistance with getting her sister Medicaid because she was diagnosed with Terminal cancer and came to California to live out her last days.
In the office I remember her story, her tears, the heartbreak of telling her daughter the same age as me she only had about 6 months to live. .
I asked my good friends to come pray for her with me and they did @ericalank4d .Sweetest presence I have ever experienced! .
God healed her entire body. She is living cancer free. And she got her LIFE back. So what are you waiting for❓How do you know that voice telling you to speak to that co-worker is not God setting them up for a miracle? For a breakthrough?
I’m sick of hearing about Satan walking boldly into the workplace and taking innocent lives 😷😷😷
Start walking in the power Jesus paid for at the cross (Romans 8:11) What would happen if we got bold and confident about our God and stopped hiding Jesus at work?
