  • How do you describe your state of heart when you are utmost happy? Will all the adjectives suffice? Will they do justice?
.
.
The American romantic, dramedy and telenovela show, Jane the Virgin, makes use of the concept of a glowing heart- a gleaming hue of red, orange and yellow, on their characters, right where the heart is- to indicate love. But in the 12th episode of 4th season, another function is added to this prop. In this episode, Mateo- Jane's (the protagonist) son- is told that his parents are dating and his face lights up, at the thought, at the potential of finally having his family together, under one roof. So, when the news is broken to him, he becomes so happy, that he just can't seem to articulate his happiness. He says in an ecstatic voice,"I can't believe this. My heart feels like, like..." "Its glowing", says Jane, articulating what his son feels and completes his sentence. "Yeah! Exactly! Like its glowing!", affirms Mateo. .
.
According to me, this inability to articulate, is an excellent marker for what feels like when the heart is full, overwhelmed, and just way too happy. And since we are no telenovela characters with glowing hearts, in such times, I rely on a particular moment, a memory. This Saturday, I had my brother come over at my place for the first time. I can provide a long list of things which he did to make me happy but I'd refer to one particular moment that encapsulates this feeling.
.
.
I was walking with him, across the parking lots to drop him at the gate, when I asked him, "My evening walk for the day is pending. Will you walk this stretch with me?" "Zaroor!", he said. We walked, sat on the bench. I shared the fact how some babies have a numb, existential crisis ridden face (to which he disagrees) and in contrast, how expressive and cute Andy (his daughter) is. We talked about how uncomfortable women clothing is and then I shared a humourous anecdote regarding the same, which made him burst into a kind of laughter that borders around puking. Before he got into the e-rickshaw, I told him how frustrating job hunt is getting, and he hugged me and said, "Mil jayegi Betu" and gently stroked my head.

  • I almost visited Bangladesh! 🇧🇩 Have you ever “almost” been to another country? How was your experience?⁣
⁣
When I landed in Tripura for the first time ever two weeks ago, I’d almost forgotten that it shares a border with Bangladesh. In fact, the Tripura- Bangladesh border is 856 kms long!🚧⁣
⁣
I almost expected some Wagah type aggressiveness, but it was almost nice. The entire ceremony took 15 minutes and the people were very polite and peaceful. Compared to the shouting and crowd control at Wagah, where everyone’s also abusing the other country, this was a refreshing surprise. Usually, they allow you to walk up to the fence and shake hands with our lovely neighbors, but on this particular day, they didn’t allow it. 🤷🏻‍♀️⁣
⁣
The one which I visited, the Akhaura border, is the gateway to all activities between the two places. It handles the largest tourist thoroughfare from the neighbouring country. 🚍⁣
⁣
If you’re planning to visit Bangladesh, you’ll probably have to pass through this border gate. However, if you’re in Agartala, take some time out and go visit Akhaura. It left me with a sense of solidarity and even confusion as to why we create all these borders, we’re all made of the same stuff anyway. It was almost emotional. ❤️⁣

  • Thoughts will change and shift just like the wind and the water when you're on the boat;
thoughts are no different than anything else.

PS- The wind was really strong, and I risked dropping my phone in the water for this 😅
