  • PROPER NAME AS A MARKER OF A COSMOGONIC SONG.
"The purpose of this article is to show the internal integrity of the Eddic Grímnismál (Sayings of Grímnir), putting forward that the proper name is the key element for understanding the structure and meaning of this Eddic song. The name with transparent semantic motivation can both explicate the key features of denotata in thulas that represent comprehensive classification schemes, and implicate them (cf. the multiplicity of names of Odin, concealing his true name and nature). The author considers the end of the song, when Odin unveils his identity, rejects his false names and uses a true one (I, Odin), as a marker of Odin’s special ecstatic state revealing the knowledge about the origin and the structure of the universe, as well as the true essence of Odin. The opposition of the names explicating the properties of named objects (personalized elements of the universe in the concept of cosmogenesis: rivers, deers, etc.) and subjects (i.e. actors, like Valkyries or Odin himself), on the one hand, and the names implicating them, on the other, is neutralized in the act of sacrifi ce when Odin comprehends the origin and the structure of the universe. Proper names are, thus, interpreted as a clip uniting the two parts of Grímnismál — the prose frame and the main poetic part of the song. The author argues that Grímnismál represents an ideal model of the universe embodied by the first and best proper name."

  • What’s in a name? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I was 10 years old, my brother got a copy of Diablo for PC, and I loved playing it. I spent a lot of my free time that age playing PC games. My dad would run MS-DOS to start one up for me, and I would sneakily watch and eventually learned how to do it myself. I was only allowed to play games when I had permission, so this was huge for me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It was funny, in Diablo I somehow ended up being the leader of a major clan. I told everyone I was a 13 year old girl, named Kaitlin. Why did a bunch of men decide to let me - a perceived pre teen girl - boss them around? Still haven’t figured that one out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fast forward 19 years. Once I decided to transition, I was thinking of a name. At first I thought of Kaitlin, but it just didn’t feel right. My mother was going to name me Michelle if I was born a girl, so because I didn't choose the name, it felt more authentic for me personally. I didn’t choose it, just like I didn’t choose to be trans. How poetic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kaitlin was my go to girl name for all of my life before transitioning. I don’t know why I chose it or how, but I used to want to be a Kaitlin. I can’t really quantify that thought process. How can someone feel like a certain name identifies them more than another? What makes someone “look” like a name?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When I chose Michelle - I realized that it fit in ways that Kaitlin didn’t for me, I feel that I LOOK like a Michelle, and I’m not sure what this means, but I FEEL like a Michelle too. I suspect that one grows into their name, and it defines you only in the sense that your history with the name does. But I’m not certain of that. In my case I wasn’t born into this name, I haven’t been known by this name for more than a few years, and still, it feels as natural as if it was always that way.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tell me in the comments about your new name! How did you pick it, or did it pick you? Do you feel it describes you?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thanks for reading!
Love, Michelle

Вот, кстати, 🇬🇧BrE /ˈeəkjuːl ˈpwɑːrəʊ/, 🇺🇸AmE /eərˈkjuːl pwɑːˈrəʊ/
⠀
⠀
The top ten most commonly mispronounced fictional characters:
⠀
1️⃣ Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes (44%) ‘Don-Key-Hoh-Tee’, not ‘Don Quicks-Oat’
⠀
2️⃣ Daenerys Targaryen, Game Of Thrones, George RR Martin (28%) ‘Duh-Nair-Ris’ ‘Tar-Gair-Ee-In’, not ‘Dee-Nay-Ris ‘Targ--Ahh-Ruh-Yen’
⠀
3️⃣ Oedipus, Sophocles (23%) ‘Ee-Di-Pus’, not 'Oh-Eh-Di-Pus'
⠀
4️⃣ Hermione, JK Rowling's Harry Potter (22%) ‘Her-My-Oh-Knee’, not ‘Her-Mee-Own’
⠀
5️⃣ Beowulf, unknown author (16%) ‘Bay-Oh-Woolf’, not ‘Bee-Oh-Wulf’
⠀
6️⃣ Poirot, Agatha Christie (15%) ‘Pwa-Row’, not ‘Poy-Rot’
⠀
7️⃣ Smaug, The Hobbit, JRR Tolkein (13%) ‘Sm-Owg’, not ‘Sm-Org’
⠀
8️⃣ Voldemort, JK Rowling's Harry Potter (12%) ‘Vol-De-More’, not ‘Vol-De-Mort’
⠀
9️⃣ Violet Beauregarde, Roald Dahl's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (12%) ‘Vie-Ah-Let’ Bore-R-Garrr’, not ‘Bore-Ruh-Gard’
⠀
🔟 Piscine Patel, Life Of Pi, Yann Martel (11%) 'Piss-Een Pat-El, not ‘Pis-Kine Pat-il’
⠀

  • #quotes they re-wrote
But He lived it. "The best thing you can do for a person is to inspire them. That's the best currency you can offer: inspiration. So, when a person can rely on you for that, that empowers them in every realm of their life. Being inspired. It empowers them in their relationships, in their business, in their art, in their creativity. It empowers them because without inspiration, you're dry." "Define #who you are and what you are, and be clear on that. Meditate on that and then, live and die by that... You can't break the rules, the fundamental rules. #Be a man of your #word , do what you say you're gonna do, respect people the way you would like to be respected." ~ #nipseyhussle #ermais
