  • I'm alive 🙋🏻‍♀️ I've been dealing with some physical health issues lately, and I'm also working through some major fear and self-doubt regarding some exciting things I have in store for you. And even though this week hasn't been my best, it's served as a reminder that we can do hard things. I'm not feeling my very best right now, but I'm grateful, and hopeful, and terrified. Because we can be all of those things - at the same damn time.

Now I’m ready to start spring shreds with the rest of our @dbftllc ladies a week late 👊🏼 ⁣⁣

How I start a cutting phase:⁣⁣
•take photos, morning weight, & measurements to use as a comparison⁣⁣
⁣⁣
•start tracking my food intake to see what I’m normally eating, and start slowly decreasing when needed. nothing extreme (tracking isn’t for everyone, I know this)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
•keep a high protein intake (.9-1 g per lb for me) to help keep me full and also maintain muscle⁣⁣
⁣⁣
•I don’t change the way I train- the whole “need to do higher reps, lighter weight” thing is false. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
•add in cardio as needed- I prefer stair master and boxing 🥊⁣⁣
⁣⁣
•meal prep food, although I do this no matter if my goal is to cut, maintain, gain, etc.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Typically I just keep quiet about my physique goals, because as an RD you get judged hard core for it 🙂 especially by other RD’s. The art of bodybuilding has always been something I loved, that’s part of the reason I wanted to be an RD in the first place, so I’m just going to be me ✊🏼

  • I don’t know what day of the week it is (thx to finals szn), but I do know it was push day, and I 🖤 push days - a lot

I’m pretty blessed in that my upper body both puts on size fairly easily, and stays relatively lean. But I have also found that some exercises help grow the shoulder boulders! First things first, a lil anatomy. Shoulders (deltoids) are made up of three parts - anterior (front), medial (side - part that gives the “capped” look), and posterior (rear) - all of which should be trained equally!

FAV COMPOUND MOVEMENT:
-dumbbell/barbell overhead press
-works primarily anterior delt, little bit of medial, and some traps

FAV ACCESSORY MOVEMENT:
-lateral raises, any and all - and heavy AF
-works primarily medial delt

  • Missing the gym so much! The only thing I can do for myself right now are body weight exercises and some band work. Doing my best to keep active...I have my own personal struggles while traveling. But traveling isn't an excuse to not stay active, my body refused to be sedentary especially working from home where I just sit pretty much all day in front of a computer. Waaahhh!! Tomorrow we are checking out a gym close by. #breakfromwork #bodyweightworkout #dragonpistolsquat #movethatbody #keepstrong

  • every Holiday in my family - we discuss the true meaning of what the Holiday represents, and we eat A LOT. 
so before i consume as many calories (good and bad 🥴) as my body will allow, i try to burn as many calories as i can before consumption is underway.

  • That book isn’t just an oversized coaster for my #proteincoffee .🤣 When asked what I want to be when I grow up as a little girl, I’d answer a lawyer or a personal trainer.

The lawyer idea has been out the window for a long time, mainly because I thought a lawyer was a cute blonde with pink smelly good paper...(Legally Blonde incase you weren’t tracking 😝) but really, I couldn’t defend anyone who deserves to be behind bars.

Fast forward 20+ yrs, I am taking a step into becoming a Certified Personal Trainer! I am stoked about all the knowledge I am about to gain.

No matter what route I take with this new journey, I am investing in myself! Don’t forget to invest in yourself! Find something that interests you and do it!! I'm still building back even just base mileage, but I'm trying to enjoy the process and trust it. It's humbling to start over after running 2 half marathons just a few mo ths ago, but I also know what I can do and what I need to do to get there.

So, easy miles, lots of smiles and waves, and patience. Lots and lots of patience.

•Embrace that sweet treats are being presented as part of a special occasion. •Avoid using sweets, leftover or otherwise purchased, as a reward or bribery tool. When the party is over so is the treat. •REMEMBER: it’s never too late to stop a binge! 😊

targets the latissimus dorsi, which is the muscle just under the armpits and spreading across and down the back. By isolating the back muscles with this exercise, you can focus specifically on them without tiring out the biceps or triceps. It's important to target your back muscles to help with proper posture and to ease pulling movements
