  • It’s always a nice surprise to see Mt Cook without a cloud. We caught a glimpse of this exceptional mountain just before dusk. The next couple of days brought so much rain that this track was washed out. Good timing on our part! A very special area of New Zealand on both divides. @eddiebauer #liveyouradventure #whyihike #ebcontributor

  • While in Tasmania I went to a nature sanctuary that rehabilitates native wildlife. The lady who took us around the reserve told us a few interesting facts about wombats: 1. They can run up to 40 km/h 💨 2. They have a hard plate made of cartilage on their backsides that they use to defend their burrows 🛡 3. (The most important fact!) Wombats are the only animal on earth that produce cube-shaped poop 💩

  • Cooling down in a remote water hole in the @ausoutbacknt I didn’t realize how tropical this region was until getting off the plane and seeing all of the lush growth of the place.
I’m glad to share this trip with everyone. It was so different to any other place I’ve been and it was refreshing to have an entirely new experience with me. @we_are_explorers #ntaustralia

  • I’ve always seen pictures of this place with a beautiful cloud inversion and I’d have to say after experiencing it, it’s pretty much as amazing as I thought it would be. @eddiebauer #whyihike #ebcontributor

  • It feels like you’re from another time walking through the Bush of New Zealand. Many people come here to see the magnificent mountains, however on our recent trip I couldn’t have been more fascinated with the forest. The sounds of prehistoric birds, moss covered trees and vibrant streams had me loving it below the tree line. Sadly huge threats to this fragile ecosystem can be seen everywhere. If you do find yourself in New Zealand, I recommend learning about the unique ecosystem here. It will make your hikes such an entertaining experience! #whyihike @eddiebauer #ebcontributor

  • We just got back from an incredible with @ausoutbacknt! The Northern Territory is nothing like I imagined it. A swimming hole at every stop it was more like a tropical paradise than the desert I thought it was. The wildlife is also off the charts, and this destination quickly jumped to the top of my favourites. Stay tuned while I share some photos this week from our time here. Photo credit: @geoffreidnz .

  • "Can you remember how that felt?" He asked
"I felt light and connected" I replied
"How connected?"He queried
"That's hard to describe" I said, "like the whole landscape was a part of me"
"But what was the feeling?"
"Love" I said, "I guess I felt love for everything"
"Yes", he said, "that is it, feel that for the tree"
"But wait a minute", I protested, "love is something that just happens, you can't make yourself love anything"
"You do not make yourself love" he said, "you allow love to enter you, but to do this, you must position your mind by remembering what it felt like".

  • The pūkeko is a well-recognised bird in Aotearoa with its snazzy colouring and tendency to hang out on the side of the road. Their English name is purple swamphen, which is funky 🕺

  • Beech forest from above. Without action mega mast events like the one that occurred this year mean devastation for our native species. New Zealand has so many unique species worth fighting for, we just have to make it more of a priority.

We’re keen to follow more NZ wildlife photographers and conservation groups. Tag your faves below!
We want to raise the profile of this account as our native birds are under threat, and the more awareness we can raise about them the better!

  • This riroriro (grey warbler) looks so determined and badass and I just love it! I like to imagine this is the face it makes when it encounters introduced predators and thinks to itself “not today, asshole!” Fun facts: Riroriro are NZs second smallest bird (the tītipounamu is smaller), they have an iconic song which you’ve probably heard before even if you don’t realise it, and they are entirely insectivorous.

  • Hope everyone enjoyed the @dunedinnz Midwinter Carnival! 🌕✨We especially loved the awesome, luminous sea lions, captured beautifully in this pic by @e.conway_ 😍🙌🙌 Did you see them too? We reckon their movement looks just as graceful as that of real sea lions in the sea!
