The gray fur is extra useful for camouflage in this environment; when these cats close their eyes and remain motionless they really disappear into the rocky terrain. Our guide @rodrigomoragaz told stories of males disappearing between glances, encouraging us to make sure we secure a shot if we were lucky enough to see one. A powerful male uses this skill to ambush prey; with extreme patience they can lay in wait for hours for the right moment to strike. But if they are seen, they can disappear and try again. Spooky! ☠️

We were fortunate to get a few brief glimpses before The Dark vanished. The big males are super elusive and more evasive around people than the females we saw. I only have this one good frame where he stopped to scan us before running away.
