Negotiations Class: No exams, no final. 10 cases of negotiating over the quarter. You are either the winner or loser. It also affects your grade if everyone else is winning more than you are.

Real skills that translate into real life. Everything is negotiable, and it isn’t always about being a bully. Check out the book “Crucial Conversations”. Note: Always take that class with the professor that wants to have class on the beach

Even though it may feel awkward to ask for more, do it anyway, advises Carnegie Mellon’s Linda Babcock. Why? A yes will lead to more money, and hearing yes repeatedly may even suggest you aren't asking for enough. And getting a no is helpful, as it can lead to useful conversations about how to grow in your current job.”

Listen. In a time where Black women earn a mere $0.63 for every dollar their white, male contemporaries make, you *need* to understand the value you bring to the table and be confident in asking for/expecting what you know is a worthwhile return a company’s investment.

That said, if you want more, make sure that you’re delivering more: more sales revenue; contributions on a new product line or service; cutting costs through innovation; stopping losses through diligent work process controls…Set your value and make 👏🏽 it 👏🏾 happen 👏🏿.

We tend to think that negotiating is about the dollar we’re getting now, but it’s about so much more. Addressing these details upfront opens the door to the more important discussion of your value to a company and your #future with it. Sadly though, unless they’re in a position of #leadership, most women (especially Black women) never get/have this kind of conversation.

You need to know if there is a future for #growth for YOU and show an employer that you’re ambitious and have desires beyond the NOW. How often do we find ourselves excited in a new job, only to be disappointed by a lack of opportunities to grow and excel down the road?

It’s paramount to set expectations early and often; knowing this up front will make the difference between just a job and starting a #career ✌🏽👑. .
