  • I spent a lot of time in Arizona growing up. My brother and I would fly down from Oregon on break from school and spend long summer days with my grandparents, swimming in the pool, walking delicately between cholla cacti, searching out quail and rabbits, and eating fresh grapefruit off their trees. We’d get drenched by the sun, our skin turning dark as we swam like fish in the morning heat. At night we’d occasionally see summer storms roll in and we’d watch lightning dance across the dark desert sky from the safety of the guest room, a small black and white tv crackling on the table next to us. Because of these memories, I’ve long had a soft spot for the Southwest. I never seem to grow tired of those soft pink sunsets, orange rocky canyons and the specific smell of the desert air.

It’s been really fun to see this part of the country as an adult and I’ve been relieved to find out that it hasn’t lost its special magic.

I was lucky enough to visit three times last year. I hope everyone gets to know these places as intimately as they have the time for. If so, I trust you’ll feel the magic too.

  • People always ask how I am able to hike in the dark and at ungodly hours of the morning. Well, I do it for these moments—when there’s not another soul in sight and I get places like this all to myself (well, for a little while at least 😅)

  • Not ready to walk into Monday tomorrow but this lazy weekend has been the best! Especially since we've been productive in other aspects of our lives even if we didn't go on any adventures this weekend. It's been fun talking and formulating our plans in the works for the rest of spring, summer, and beyond and just setting other random little goals on the side. Also been working on the blog and Joe and I are going to start practicing filming! We even got some gym time in, cleaning, and some wedding/honeymoon things done!

Joe also enrolled for a motorcycle training course & testing in April so he can get the endorsement on his license and be legal to drive almost anything now when we travel abroad. We have been to some places that don't require the endorsement but a lot of countries you obviousy need an IDP and your license to drive a car but if you want to drive a scooter/motorbike you also need an endorsement on your drivers license to drive a scooter/motorbike. A lot of SE Asian travelers do not realize this and they are not covered by insurance if they get in accidents or are subject to fines. So he is pretty excited about that. He has also been building an app to put onto the Google Playstore lol.

I was randomly looking into TEFL certification courses just to kind of explore that field for fun. I'm honestly really open to exploring so many different/random fields as I slowly embark on trying to do a career change out of my current field. I am excited to see where my research, curiosities, and explorations will end up taking me and hope to find something that makes me excited to wake up for work everyday. One thing for sure is I would love to get out of the stuffy corporate desk life for a bit soon.
