  • “Are you the dental hygienist? I don’t need a cleaning, when will I see the doctor?” my patient asked. After explaining that I was his dentist, a look of disbelief was casted over his face, “but you don’t look like a dentist?” So I asked him—what does a dentist look like? He quickly responded, “An old, white man with a belly—you’re too pretty to be a dentist”.
.
.
Albeit an extreme example, this occurrence happens DAILY for myself and countless female professionals. Yes these interactions are rarely ill-intentioned, but I question why we still place judgmental constructs based on gender or perceived attractiveness onto others, even if it is subconscious. .
.
A great dentist can be a man OR a woman, and a caring hygienist can be a woman OR a man. Likewise, healthcare providers can be both “handsome/pretty” AND qualified. .
.
We all learned to never judge a book by its cover, so why are we still doing it? I personally choose my doctors based on their education, experience, communication and empathy. I think it’s these inward qualities that make a great health care provider.
Any thoughts?

  • Happy to report that I got discharged from the hospital on Saturday! I wish I could say that means I feel better, but it doesn’t. This picture is from the monitor I use at home to track my heart rate and oxygen levels. Normal is 95% or above. As you can see, I dropped to 88% and this was just from being in my kitchen making myself breakfast. Basically, some tests for my heart came back abnormal... but my symptom presentation isn’t “textbook”. I’m sure you all know how this goes: presenting with symptoms that don’t perfectly fit a diagnosis usually means it’s going to be up to you to figure it out. Luckily, this isn’t the first time I’ve been here, and I refuse to accept “modify your lifestyle” as an acceptable plan for the rest of my life. As of now, I have an appointment scheduled in September to see a heart specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Until then, I’ll remain faithful. Love you all, and appreciate your support and encouragement beyond measure 💛

Die Geschichte einer unheilvollen Verkettung
#derfallhans
Keiner kannte ihn richtig. Durch drei Fachabteilungen geschleust, zu Unzeiten.
Mangelnde Zeit kostet Leben.
Ausreichend qualifiziertes Personal verlängert es
Letzte Woche hat es Hans getroffen

  • Werbung (Kooperation):
.
Was hat euch in letzter Zeit motiviert weiterzumachen?

Courgettes, tomatoes, pumpkins!  Try to find the pumpkins in the second photo👀 dito sa bago namin place madami kmi inayos so I couldn't grow veggies but managed so e border planting instead. • First day was a success!
Got to see so much, got to help so many, definitely felt like I belonged 💙 put a smile on my face when talking to family members, and little did they know I just walked out of a code.
Saw a variety of patient population & complaints. So much in only 8 hrs 😅 definitely hit my steps today 👍🏼 Still learning my responsibilities & remembering my skills. Spending 1 year in the OR definitely was great experience but defiantly rusty on IV’s. Any tips would be greatly appreciated in the comments!! #nurse #emergencyroom #emergencymedicine #nursing #scrubs

  • Selam.

  • Hey Y’all!👋🏻I’ve done it! I passed the GRE! ..and by passed, I mean I scored higher than the bare minimum required for CRNA school acceptance. I don’t know about you, but the last time I covered any material regarding algebra, geometry, or trig was .. more than 15 years ago!👵🏻 I used the Princeton Review ‘Cracking the GRE Premium’ book, and am more than happy to share the parts that helped me out the most. ✨First of all.. PLAN! Use your planner (or smart phone) to block away dedicated time to study for the GRE. I recommend doing no more than an hour at a time, and squeeze in at least one test a week! Spread out the material so that you don’t get overwhelmed trying to cram in two weeks. ✨Strategy! Finish the easy questions first! The nice thing about the GRE is that you can answer the questions in any order you prefer, and there is no penalty for the questions you answer incorrectly. You only get points for questions answered correctly. ✨Process of Elimination! Instead of searching for the right answer, start off looking for the wrong answers. This may improve your odds significantly especially if you end up guessing. ✨Be Suspicious! These GRE test makers are pretty sneaky and like to distract you with choices that look correct but are not. ✨Look for Clues! Regarding the ‘Fill in the Blank’ portion… look for clues and transition words. “Who or what is the blank describing?” “What clues provide insight?” Use the clues to come up with your own word/description that fits in the blank, then compare your description/word with the answer choices. ✨As for the math.. the GRE/ETS website provides a Khan Academy review guide. I searched the web for “GRE Khan Academy Review” and found the study guide.

I hope these tips will help you out! Good luck on the exam, It was a painful experience but definitely doable. Was your GRE experience better? Do y’all have any tips for doing well on the GRE? Please Share! :)

  • The saying goes, “behind every great doctor is a greater nurse.” Jessica came to Dr. Shackleton’s office back in 2009 not knowing anything about naturopathic medicine, yet Dr. Shackelton took a chance and hired her on the spot. There was undoubtedly an immediate connection, and neither knew at the time just how much their partnership and friendship would grow.

A Cornell University grad, Jessica had always dreamed of being a medical doctor but took a detour halfway through college and graduated with a BA in psychology. It was 8 years before she landed in Mary’s clinic and was working on prerequisites for nursing school. Jessica started as Mary’s office manager and eventually got her EMT-IV certification so she could help with the IV clinic.

Jessica matriculated into Regis University’s Accelerated BSN program in May 2012 and worked at Holistica whenever she could. After graduation, Jessica worked in the Emergency Department at Presbyterian St. Luke’s for a year, had her first baby, and then worked at an integrative pediatric clinic in Denver for two years. Jessica returned to Holistica full time in October of 2016; she is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in nursing and plans to become a Nurse Practitioner at Holistica.
Jessica is an integral member of the Holistica staff and the compassion and dedication to her patients' health and wellness is second to none. All of the staff at Holistica ❤️ Jessica and we know you will too!
