If you’re a resident of Tribeca near North Moore and Varick Street, or a resident of a fictional upper west side apartment building, you’d end up calling the same place for an emergency, the Hook & Ladder No.8 firehouse. Made famous by the movie Ghost Busters, the firehouse was built in 1903 and was twice as large as it was today. During the extension of the 1/2/3 trains, Varick street was widened to facilitate construction. As a result, half of the firehouse was destroyed to make room. It was landmarked as a part of the West Tribeca Historic District on May 7th, 1991.
