There’s a story that I really love telling people, especially lately. ⠀
It’s more or less about how averse to the cold I was as a kid. I can remember getting made fun of by my brothers, for being a “baby” about winters. One time, at the dinner table, I mentioned that I would’ve liked to live in the 1200s (I think I was learning about that era in school). My older brother laughed and said, “You’d never survive!”⠀
Around that time, I had decided that I wanted to participate in the Iditarod someday (totally normal...). I knew that my aversion to the cold would be an issue. ⠀
So, as you do, I spent what was probably a few days going outside in 10-minute intervals wearing just shorts and a t-shirt mid-winter. I thought it would make me tougher. ⠀
It turns out, that ^ didn’t help me become better about braving the cold. ⠀
What *did* help was simply spending time outside in the winter even if I didn’t like it. ⠀
Now, I tent camp all winter. I splitboard. I even started trail running in the snow. ⠀
I still don’t like the cold, and I still don’t relate to winter. ⠀
But I’m no longer the girl who sat at the dinner table, accepting the notion that I’m not tough enough to do...well, anything. ⠀
You’re allowed to be uncomfortable. You’re allowed to struggle. Hell, if you’re with me, you’re even allowed to complain. ⠀
But you do have to do it. ⠀
At least, that’s the deal I’ve made with myself. ⠀
I haven’t been in the Iditarod (yet), but I have found my place in the outdoor space. I hope you’re finding yours, too. ⠀
(And, I’d love to help you fuel that journey. I’m fortunate enough to be supported by @backcountry ; you can get a little support, too. Click the link in my bio to shop gear, and use the promo code NICOLE15 at checkout for 15% off your first order)

The Louvre is the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris, France. A central landmark of the city, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the city's 1st arrondissement (district or ward). Approximately 38,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 72,735 square meters (782,910 square feet). In 2018, the Louvre was the world's most visited art museum, receiving 10.2 million visitors.
The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built as the Louvre castle in the late 12th to 13th century under Philip II. Remnants of the fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. Due to urban expansion, the fortress eventually lost its defensive function, and in 1546 Francis I converted it into the primary residence of the French Kings. The building was extended many times to form the present Louvre Palace. In 1682, Louis XIV chose the Palace of Versailles for his household, leaving the Louvre primarily as a place to display the royal collection, including, from 1692, a collection of ancient Greek and Roman sculpture. In 1692, the building was occupied by the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, which in 1699 held the first of a series of salons. The Académie remained at the Louvre for 100 years. During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre should be used as a museum to display the nation's masterpieces.
The museum opened on 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings, the majority of the works being royal and confiscated church property. Because of structural problems with the building, the museum was closed in 1796 until 1801.
................my sister is engaged!!!!!!! I am so excited for her and am more than happy to have Mike become a part of the family.
Sneak peek to their first engagement session 😍 Stay tuned, there’s more to come!
I went out this morning in my plaid flannel nightgown and snow boots to grab an armload of wood for the wood stove, so I’m basically an LLBean model now. 🤣But it was so beautiful and peaceful out there that I just had to share it. I love where we live. #603
