  • Reaching the top of the mountain serves the purpose of finding the next one.
.
.
If you are just starting out on your journey, it may seem daunting to look ahead at the the next 2.5 years of your life and imagine all the hardships you will have to face in order to make it to where these men have. Just like when you are climbing a peak you cannot see the top initially you can only imagine what it will be like when you get there and the satisfaction you will feel with your efforts.
.
I am often asked what the qualities of a graduate are and what can a person do to achieve those standards. The answer is simple identify your goal and the path to that goal, then don’t stop working until you have achieved it.
.
Graduation is only the first step though, because the people that make it are not satisfied ever. Achieving a goal that few others can in world unlocks something in your brain and it makes something clear to you the fact that YOU CAN DO ANYTHING you put your mind to.
.
So when these men graduated they learned that lesson. Being at the top of the mountain and achieving that goal they have worked so hard for has given them the vantage point to see that there are an infinite number of other mountains to climb and that they can conquer any of them.
This was the last class I had the privilege to be a proctor for and the very last Indoc class to graduate a rigorous 9 week course. I am extremely proud of these men and I look forward to seeing the amazing things they will accomplish as they live out the motto “THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE.”

  • I’ve delivered First Aid training to more than 60 people this week, and it’s only Wednesday!! Lots of schools getting their staff up to speed before the term starts... I do love being involved in helping keep kids safe.... but....thank goodness for coffee 😆

  • I haven’t been active in awhile. This is to let everyone know that I’ve been “hanging” in there!
Between Tacmed, almost deploying, Getting my IPAP packet together and now ALC, I can definelty say I’ve been quite busy! Late to the game but 2020 has not slowed anything down for me! So this is my 2020 post! Here’s to the continual grind 🍻🍻🍻

  • I get asked A LOT about the differences between UK doctors and doctors who train in other healthcare systems, especially the USA.

Here's a quick graphic covering some of the key differences and terms that the different systems use. For example, doctors in the USA often earn vastly more money than those in the UK, but it is also much more difficult and much more expensive to become a medic in America, especially to match into the residency (specialty) you want. There is also a common misconception that UK doctors wear white coats and are called 'MDs' when they graduate - this is not true, medical schools in the UK do not grant the MD degree and instead grant MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery). You CAN become an MD (Doctor of Medicine) in the UK, but this is done much later in training similarly to a PhD.

In the UK you'll progress from Foundation doctor (or House Officer/Senior House Officer) through to specialty registrar and finally to consultant. In America, this instead generally follows Intern, Resident, Attending Physician.

  • What does your job description include? Here's just some of the things my husband is trained to do as a paramedic. He's done em all but the baby delivery. 🧸🧷🐣... Here's to hoping one day he'll earn his stork pin. Here's to hoping one day resuscitating a baby would be veiwed as worthy enough to pay above 20/hour. -
