A view of the Latin cross plan (and old roof and spire) of Notre-Dame on this Good Friday. In what’s not been a good week, really, for Parisians and lovers of Paris. But it could have been a heck of a lot worse. And as particularly distressing as it was to see the historic cathedral suffer at this sacred time of year, perhaps it’s fortuitous timing after all, given Easter’s theme of resurrection. May Paris’s Lady soon rise again, more beautiful than ever ⛪️

“The whole of Paris is a vast university of Art, Literature and Music… it is worth anyone’s while to dally here for years. Paris is a seminar, a post-graduate course in everything.” -James Thurber
Oh, Montmartre...How I wish I could dally here for years! This beautiful hilltop village in Paris will always be one of my favorite locations on the planet. This photo was taken right outside of the famous Place du Tertre.
Did you know that before Montmartre became a part of Paris, it was a little village covered in farms, vineyards and windmills (some of which you can still find today). During the late 1800’s-early 1900’s, it was a haven for artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh and Toulouse-Lautrec due to its more affordable living costs and cheap wine! This is how the artistic community (and cabaret culture!) in Montmartre began to form, and the artistic heritage still lives on today! You can find several artists all over the Place du Tertre in the center of the neighborhood selling their work, which reminds me, in a way, of home and all the artists gathering around Jackson Square in New Orleans. ☾
Have you traveled anywhere else in the world that reminded you of home? ♡

Shit that happen in the dark , should stay in the dark, because the things you've seen tonight😏
A close-up view of the ill-fated spire of Notre-Dame, taken in 2005. The rest of the roof in the foreground here was also lost, and I assume that includes the filigree cross on the upper right, unfortunately. I just heard today that the metal rooster on top of the spire was recovered today, crushed but salvageable! It and a thorn from the Crown of Thorns that is inside the bird were meant to keep the church and Paris safe from harm.
