Under the 'Peace Marble II' programme Israel acquired 51 'Block 30' F-16Cs, and 24 F-16Ds from the United States. The Israeli F-16C has a completely different avionics fit compared to USAF models, and because of the differences the Israeli F-16C has a max take-off weight nearly 3000kgs heavier than an equivalent USAF model, necessitating changes to both the landing gear and the wheels. The F-16C is known locally as the 'Barak' in IAF service, which translated means Lightning.
In the USSR, plastic bags were never garbage: they were a luxury. Instead of wrapping paper, it was more thoughtful to give a present in the original plastic bag it came in. Our photo of the week by @antonbomberz shows they continue to be treated lovingly by some Russians: "There are still people who keep and reuse plastic bags. It’s become a tell-tale sign of someone who lived through the USSR, when plastic bags were hard to come by so they were washed and reused." #neweast#calvertjournal#photooftheweek#earthday#russia#recycling#sustainability#photography
