Another chocolate orange recipe...🙈 THE CHOCOLATE ADDICTION IS REAL.🙏❤️
It’s still morning but I’ve decided to make today a good day. Woke up to rain against my window, took a hot shower and then I ate this delicious bowl in the rain on our balcony. Now I’m watching the news with my mom while writing this.😊
To be honest I haven’t really been consistent with the routines I need to feel my best but I’m trying to pick them up again - even though it’s hard. I’m starting with trying to post regularly again and doing yoga. 🙏

Just spoke with @drrenaethomas about this exact thing. After seeing a post by about small meat consumption I thought I was well worth sharing. -
The question asked, was having small amounts of red and processed meat ok to consume if you were otherwise healthy? - -
Of course if you are eating alot of high variety plants, full of fibre and nutrients then you will be much better off than if you don't. -
But what about meat, in small amounts?
This study was conducted over 11 years, with 7900 people in one of the longest living populations, The 7th Day Adventists. Of which is well known to live long, and have a very low rate of chronic disease. They alreeady eat at least 95% plants, but some of the members are even vegetarian or vegan. The researchers wanted to know if the there was a difference in disease between those that choose to eat meat and those that didnt.
The findings? Well you can see for yourself in the slides above. That even a small amount of red processed meat; more than 50 grams a week increased the risk of early death. -
BUT Aaron, I hear you say, this is only an observational study. Correlation doesn't equal causation. Which is sometimes true. -
But do you see other studies showing the opposite? And how would you conduct a human controlled study for such a duration to prove other wise? I don't think many people would be keen to be part of a study to see which group dies first. -
Either way, If I have the chance to lower my, and my families risk of dying early I'm going to take it.
Interesting enough did you know that health warnings on cigarettes are also based on observations studies and lab experiments? Similar methods to what has led to processed red meat to be listed as a carcinogenic by the WHO?? -

As a vegan and former meat eater, the impossible burger by @beyondmeat is a little underwhelming. The portion size ruined it for me. Since its plant-based... I’ll give it another shot in a non-festival setting. Simple beetroot with good flames tastes better.
A vegan diet can be more affordable than an omnivore diet! Beans and whole grains are some of the cheapest calories in the world. Here are some tips to make it even cheaper:
1. Find a health food store near you that sells items in bulk. These tend to be less expensive and are perfect for buying whole grains, beans, spices and nuts/seeds. Even the bulk section at Whole Foods is cheaper than regular supermarkets (just don't buy their fancy prepackaged stuff which ends up being your 'whole paycheck'🤑).
2. Use leftovers! Simple, yet effective. Some people hate leftovers, but why not repurpose them for lunch? You made a curry but don't want the same thing again? Add in chickpeas and avocado to 'freshen' it up. Put some lemon or lime juice on it. There are many ways to alter it so you don't feel like you're eating the same thing every day.
3. Shop for fruits and vegetables that are in season. These are generally cheaper and are not shipped from somewhere halfway around the world, making them more fresh. Know when the growing season is so you can plan your meals accordingly.
What are your tips for staying on a budget when vegan?
