In 2014 I broke my wrist and had two surgeries. Being a dancer and using my whole body as my instrument and my language it was shocking to not recognize my hand as a part of my body. I felt broken.
As part of my healing process I started gardening again. Digging my hands into the earth and watching a plant grow from a seed into a strong plant was a metaphor for my wrist repairing, reconnecting and healing. Digging and moving woodchips around rebuilt the strength and mobility in my wrist and hand. Through physical therapy, gardening and good food I was able to heal myself and be whole again body, mind and soul.
