It's been exactly twelve days since we posted a pup and plant pic and exactly twelve days too long. We apologise for the inconvenience and hope Ellie can make it up for you. 🐶
Oh and don't forget, if you love and puppers and plants as much as we do, head to the PLB journal for our advice on pet-friendly plants 📸 Photo credit to Ellie's mum @monicamarlene15 via @thesill

Oooohhh gurl, I remember when I was planning my first trip to a botanical garden. I really did not know what to expect. The first couple thoughts that ran through my head were, “What do I wear? What’s the proper attire? How should I show up in a space like this?” As a Black queer femme, these are usually the initial thoughts that run through my head whenever I am about to navigate a space I’ve never occupied before. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
DAHLING, being unapologetic in your identities and how you show up in this world is a constant werk in progress ... and gurl, I continue to werk on this for myself every👏🏾single👏🏾day! BUT best believe this kween will be bringing Black queer femme realness to any botanical garden she struts into 💃🏽🌵🌿🌱
FUN FACT: For the last couple of Sundays this kween has taken the early morn to have a lil celebratory watering party with her green gurls ... and you know she has to dress for occasion, dahling! 💃🏽 💦 🌿
Watering day can sometimes seem like a daunting task for any plant parent! So gurl, ya gotta make it fun for yourself 🤗💚 So today I am celebrating the mere fact that I have 110 thriving green gurls in my lil one bedroom apartment, cuz sometimes ya just gotta honor the nurturer that you are 🌿🌵🌱

Pilea repotting with pumice ☺️
This is the second time I am repotting this plant in the last 6 months. It's been growing fast, first in my west facing window, with several hours of direct sun in the afternoon, then under a grow light, for 12-16 hours/day for the past few weeks. .
It ran out of space, it has been growing intensively so it was time to repot.
I started using pumice for my potting mix, instead of perlite. If you don't know much about pumice, it's a porous volcanic rock, usually gray in color. For horticultural usage it's mined and crushed and then graded according to size. It has a neutral PH value, and is sterile (free of pathogens, it doesn't attract or host pathogens). Using an inorganic component such as pumice, that doesn't decompose, helps maintain the soil structure and prevents compaction. The more pumice you add, the more it will save air space and reduce compaction of the substrate. .
A couple of studies have been conducted on the effects of pumice on agricultural and houseplant production. It was concluded that pumice helps substrates be more resistant to shrinkage and that it maintains air space between soil particles. I can tell you that I already enjoy pumice much more than perlite.
I had to use a butter knife to get the plant out of the pot. I used the knife along the edges of the soil, to push the soil away from the pot. I do it carefully, so I don't danage any of the babies that are in soil, but still can't be seen.
I pot all of my plants about one inch below the pot rim, so there is enough room to water.

Peanut (Arachis hypogaea) is known as the groundnut, goober, or monkey nut. It is a legume crop grown mainly for its edible seeds. As a legume, the peanut belongs to the botanical family Fabaceae (Leguminosae), and commonly known as the bean, or pea, family.

Roommate came home with this Pink Quill, Tillandsia Cyanea for me. I repotted and mixed in a little @dr_earth_organics to the orchid mix and now by all accounts I never have to do anything to it. Spritz it a bit every once in a while but it basically lives as an air plant that needs some humidity but very minimal watering. Overnight, the purple flower appeared and several more are on the verge! Love this new little weirdo.
