So here's the thing.. I used to hate the beach. I never understood the point in going and always preferred the mountains. Until this last year, I had never seen a sunrise or sunset on the coast and had assumed it was always a cold place shrouded in clouds. This trip quickly changed that as we were blessed with a beautiful sunset. And though it is Monday, I am looking forward to spending this upcoming weekend on the coast again.

I’m thankful to live in a place where on a Sunday afternoon, I can make a spontaneous decision “to catch a sunset in the mountains”, and make it happen. And I’m thankful for friends who are always down for a last-minute adventure. Photo Credit 📷: @emitoms 💕

And we will sleep by the ocean
Our hearts will move with time
And we will wake in the morning
To see the sun paint the sky

What is ikigai?
Ikigai is a Japanese concept that means “a reason for being.” In English, it roughly translates in to the “thing that you live for.”
Ikigai brings meaning and purpose in to ones life, because it is a tool that asks each individual what they specifically value and find worthy in life.
To find your ikigai, answer these four questions:
What do I love?
What am I good at?
What can I be paid for?
What does the world need?
Where the circles converge, you will find your passion, mission, vocation, and profession.
A combination of all of these is your ikigai.
The Okinawans in Japan, who has one of the longest life expectancies in the world, practice the philosophy of ikigai daily. Many people think the reason the Okinawans live long and healthy is due to their diet, but most forget to take in to account their ikigai and it’s benefits on health and well-being. Having a purpose in life, with a supportive community of friends and family, creates an environment that is rich in connection, meaning, and social engagement. This has a profound effect on decreasing stress in the body, which promotes more peaceful and harmonious living. #meaning#purpose#naturopathicmedicine#naturalmedicine#functionalmedicine#japan#okinawa#reason#mindbodysoul#mindfulness#meditation#pnw#health#fitness#foodasmedicine#nature#love#foundationsofhealth#heal

All I can tell you right now is I don’t want to be where I am, and I don’t know where I’m going but I’m ready to be there. It’s already been a trying year and I don’t see it changing much for the rest of the year.
Things are going to change because they have to, and all I know right now is I feel most complete as a part of the mountain, or as a part of the trail. Maybe failure is the hesitancy in taking that first step towards anywhere.

The last frost has passed and planting season has officially begun! 🙌🏼👍🏼 Today, our seed potatoes went into the ground. Not surprising, but this is one farm task the boys will always do without complaint; it’s amazing how powerful homemade French fries are as a motivator 🥔 🍟💕
