▶️ Freddie the gentleman.
▪️ Tony Brainsby, old friend:.
- "Certainly, close friends and acquaintances of Freddie, who knew him in his last years, testify to a man in many respects more placid and mature, I detected a change in him, whenever we ran into each other. One night, he had gone to see his friend Peter Straker appearing in a play and he was wearing a beautiful suit and looked very elegant. He was so mellow. He wasn’t fighting for stardom and recognition because he already had those, he was peaceful. He was a charming, congenial man who enjoyed going to the theatre. For me, he was a different person altogether and relaxed, perhaps not professionally but certainly personally. That time, I wasn’t meeting Freddie the rock star, but the sophisticated gentleman".
▶️ Oh yeah, but I think he always was! He always was that mix of wild and sophistication, rock and roll, theatre and opera, chains and suits... Better with age like the good wine, that's true, tho! 😍😉.
A STAR IS BORN (2018)
Directed by: Bradley Cooper
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga, Sam Elliott
This touching, super entertaining and engaging film really proves that remakes CAN be original, even if it's the fourth time the same story is being told.
Having not seen the previous three films, I went into this movie not knowing what to expect. Today was my third time watching it, and the impression it left on me still lingers.
Speaking as objectively as I can, A Star Is Born is far from being perfect. Its script is a bit messy, its editing is good, but not great, its pacing feels too rushed, and its songs, however catchy and fun to listen to, often present lyrics that just sound dumb and lacking effort. However, it's all its strong points that really make it shine.
Bradley Cooper's directing, while a little inconsistent, is still pretty impressive (and a big snub at the Oscars). The acting is really good, especially Cooper's and Elliott's performances. Lady Gaga is fine, too, but her line delivery feels amateurish at times.
The characters are fantastically written, and you get to really care for them. The cinematography is quite amazing, and the editing (when it's good) works along with it to create some really powerful scenes. Another thing I must mention is the ending of the film, as it's one of the most emotionally powerful in recent memory, and it packs quite the punch.
A Star Is Born does have some noticeable mistakes. However, it being a third remake and the directorial debut of Bradley Cooper, it's really impressive. It's touching, fun, powerful, and quite emotional. If you still haven't seen it, I highly reccommend you do. 🎬
Personal enjoyment: 9/10
