  • Sleep and The Immune System 
Studies show that people who don't get quality sleep or enough sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus, such as a common cold virus.

Lack of sleep can also affect how fast you recover if you do get sick. Your body is constantly battling pathogens and bacteria that your immune system is meant to battle.

Sleep deprivation decreases production of protective cytokines for the body. In addition infection- fighting antibodies and cells are reduced during period when you don't get enough sleep.

If you have problems sleeping or insomnia, try this few tips to help you get better sleep:
❤ Dim light 1 hour before bed (use Himalayan Salt Lamps as it emits negative ions and the soft amber glow help the mind and body to relax).
❤ Put away all electronic
❤ Avoid caffeine before bed
❤ Soak in a warm salt bath. Try a little lavender essential oil to help you relax.
❤ Pay attention to how you feel. If you are feeling worried/angry/irritated/sad, you can try to write down your thoughts as it helps to clear the mind.
❤ Once you get in bed, close your eyes and focus on your breath.

I saw this somewhere, liked it and stole it because I needed to hear it and maybe someone else does too.

These photos are roughly 6 months apart. I needed to remind myself of how much stronger I’ve become, mentally and physically.
.
For the past couple of weeks I’ve been incredibly overwhelmed + stressed out and I haven’t felt much like myself. I dont have much of a support system so running is my usual go-to outlet and I haven’t been able to do that. I ran too much, too soon and injured my tibialis anterior muscles. BUT. I just had my first two of eight physical therapy sessions, got some answers and the green light to start running again. I already feel like I’m in a better head space. I feel SO much excitement for the progress I’ll make over the next 6 weeks leading up to my first marathon. I didn’t come this far for nothing.

  • I FINALLY got a run in after a week off because our family is finally recovered from the flu and then a stomach bug... it was a bad week. So, it felt AMAZING getting back out for a run and to top it off, it was an absolutely beautiful evening.

  • One day, a school teacher wrote on the board the following:

9×1=7
9×2=18
9×3=27
9×4=36
9×5=45
9×6=54
9×7=63
9×8=72
9×9=81
9×10=90

When she was done, she looked at the students and they were all laughing because of the first equation which was wrong and then the teacher said the following:

I wrote that first one wrong on purpose because I wanted you to learn something important. This was for you to know how the world out there will treat you. You can see that I wrote the RIGHT thing 9 times but none of you congratulated me for it. But you all laughed and criticized me because of one wrong thing I did.

So this is the lesson: 
The world will never appreciate the good you do a millions times but will criticize the one wrong thing you do. Don't get discouraged. ALWAYS RISE ABOVE ALL THE LAUGHTER AND CRITICISM. STAY STRONG! ✌

I get to run the @Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k race in San Diego this coming Sunday. I have wanted to run it for FOREVERRRRRR! Running is THE BEST SPORT (ok fine, I don’t have to tell y’all that- you get it!😅) & I’m thankful for everything it has brought into my life.

I love it because:
.
❤️It encourages me to be the most positive version of myself. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be able to keep pressing on through discouragement with such enthusiasm.
.
❤️It’s a way for me to take better care of my body in all aspects. I respect my body for the work it puts in- so I treat it even better with how I’m fueling & supplementing it.
.
❤️It helps me to learn to press on even when times are tough & not to give up at the first barrier to a goal.
.
❤️It keeps life EXCITING. Nothing re-energizes you like being in pursuit of a big goal. Keeps life from being boring and monotonous.
.
❤️It is the BEST FORM of mobile therapy- gives me a time to process things & become a better version of myself.
.
❤️It helps me to feel strong & powerful.
.
I am SO excited to get out there this Sunday & be in a fun race environment. During tough seasons, it’s SO good for the soul to put yourself out there in the amazing & supportive running community (super easy to isolate yourself when things are hard- but we NEED people!) WHO IS RUNNING IT THIS WEEKEND??! Can we please meet up for some hot chocolate at the post-race party? Also- the @Allstate tent has the best photo op- a “cup of hot chocolate”! Hope to see y'all there!🥰
