  • Happy Thursday Siblings!!👩🏽‍💻👩🏻‍💻
•
Our day started in the right direction because we finally had some time in the morning to talk and take a quick picture together🙌🏼 -Normally we are always in a rush and we barely get to talk face to face during the week.🥺😞
•
Definitely having the motivation to make it through the week is what keeps us going! This weeks motivation is thanks to #ShellHacks !!!! Sadly, we have a lot of school assignments we need to work on over the weekend so we might not be able to participate in a challenge 🥺 We will see about that latter, BUT for sure we are going on Friday and part of Saturday so we can show you Siblings how amazing #ShellHacks is!🐚 )
•
We are going to be posting a lot of stories showing you everything that is going on AND we are going to try to do quick interviews with some of the sponsors! (Top secret: Yola is going to be there Friday at Assurant's table, go and say hi if you have some time)👩🏻‍💻♥️
•
For those who keep asking… besides giving you the opportunity to expand your network, a hackathon gives you the chance to form a team, work on amazing challenges and learn a bunch of new things in Workshops offered by the sponsors! 👌🏽💻
•
Events like #ShellHacks allow you to talk to people that work in the BIG companies you may dream to work for one day. Also, it gives you an opportunity to practice talking about yourself and to show off your skills!! 👩🏽‍💻💻
•
As we talked about on Monday, everything starts with that first step of putting yourself out there! One day, one effort, one question, one conversation… ONE action that can lead you to a totally different life of AWESOMENESS!🙌🏼🎉
•
We hope to see you there and to get a lot of questions from all of you Siblings!📲💻

  • Internet Explorer 11 🤮🤢 Our App needs to support IE11 since a big portion of the users still use IE11, unfortunately. 😅 This is super painful because IE11 is terrible, and you need to polyfill so much stuff. In order for our App to work on IE we needed to add a polyfill to our React App that is 50kb when Gzziped. This is a lot, it's bigger than the React Library itself. 😕⁣
⁣
Apart from this we still have tons of bugs on IE11 because some packages we're using don't support it, and IE11 is a pain to debug because there are no Dev tools there. 😂⁣
⁣
I found today that for example when using Flexbox, justify-content: space-evenly doesn't work on IE11. ❌ But space-around and space-between work fine 😂😂⁣
⁣
I can't wait for IE11 to die and for the time we don't need to support it anymore. ✌🏼💯⁣
⁣
Have you ever had the need to support IE11? How did it went? I'm curious to know! 😊⁣

  • How did I learn to become a programmer? 👨🏻‍💻
Answer: I started early! I started as a kid and I didn’t see it as learning - I saw it as PLAYING. Playing with a tool that had endless possibilities to create stuff. All you had to do was come up with an idea and figure out how to make it a reality!
.
Most people want the shortcut answer to everything. We see things as a “journey”, implying that there is a destination we’re trying to get to. And that must mean we need to get there as quickly as possible, right? 🏃🏻‍♂️
.
Well, what would it look like if it wasn’t a race to the finish? What would it look like if it was just a neverending game? Constant play. A bit like Lego that grows and changes with you.
.
I’m not here to teach you how to code. I’m more interested in why you want to code in the first place. If you’re doing it just because you want to make money, I think you’ll eventually lose momentum.
.
But if you see the world of tech as a never ending playground full of cool toys that you get to create new things with, and where the toys are constantly changing and improving..? Well, then you can never get bored, and you will always be looking for new ways to create things. And that is way more fun than just trying to learn something because someone else said it pays well.
.
Want to learn to code? Start as soon as you can, and in whatever way you can. (The starting point doesn’t really matter). Play with it! Have fun with it! Play with new technologies and tools as they come out. Then repeat. For the rest of your life.
.
It doesn’t happen overnight.
There is no end goal.
No one has “completed” this game.
We don’t really know what’ll be next,
Except new things to play with.
And that’s what makes it fun. 😬
✌🏼

  • By now I have a basic understanding about :
1. How different datatypes works
2 How to create algorithms
3 How the three most common diagrams are built and their meanings
4 How to create a class and a object
5 How basic methods works, how to create them and call on them

Whats next? IfConditions, while and foorLoops!!
👇🏻
An if statement allows you to take different paths of logic, depending on a given condition. When the condition evaluates to a boolean true, a block of code for that true condition will execute. (Picture 2,3)

A while loop will check a condition and then continues to execute a block of code as long as the condition evaluates to a boolean value of true. (Picture 4)

A for loop works like a while loop, except that the syntax of the for loop is different. For loops are appropriate when you know exactly how many times you want to perform the statements within the loop. (Picture 5)•

  • Problem in freelancing platform.
I believe that freelancing platform are not worth putting time, in these platform the race is always to the bottom, if the client put a job for creating a site for 500$, people would be bidding 150$, 100$, 80$, how client would be able to choose? In most cases, clients go for the cheapest price. client does not get quality he just gets cheap price.

My recommendation.
I recommend not to put much effort in freelancing platform, freelancers think that the client is looking for the cheapest solution but that's not right, they are looking for a pro person to solve his problem, In these platforms you will not be able to survive long, because more people are joining these platforms the competition gonna rise. I recommend you to build a brand.
How to build a brand?
You could build a brand by showing your expertise by just creating a good website for yourself, I recommend you to create a YouTube channel, Instagram page, Facebook page and LinkedIn page, the person who would be consuming your content would think that you are an expert in your field, and he will refer you to others.

▪️I continued working on the Library project. I added the functionality to delete a book and I styled the submit button. Besides that I also did some more stylings on the project in general. Time spent: 2:15 hours

As I've mentioned in my last post I decided to start with web development. I'm currently doing an udemy course to learn the basics and today I've finished the html part of the course. Now I'm starting with css 🙏
