  • Saturday - Babyface (1993)

Couldnt think of a more appropriate day to post this bop😊 Here we have a hugely underrated track from Babyface's most successful album. At this point in his career, he had already released huge songs like Whip Appeal [6 US] & was fresh off of writing/producing huge hits like Pebbles' Love Make Things Happen [13 US]. It was hard to think how Babyface could top the height of this success but in 93 did it with ease. 4 of the 5 singles we're top 10 R&B hits, including the legendary When Can I See You [4 US]b

Hopefully this track can not only start your weekend off right but get you in the mood for that spring time feeling again!b

Track 6/12

Production by Babyface, Darryl Simmons, & LA Reid

Bass, Keyboards: Babyface
Drum Programming: LA Reid

Album: For The Cool In You (Aug 24th, 1993)

Babyface's 3rd studio album

5 singles were released from this LP & the lead, For The Cool In You (93) [10 R&B, 81 US] was a great lead single for Babyface. The following, Never Keeping Secrets (93) [3 R&B, 15 US] became the biggest urban track off the LP. The 3rd, And Our Feelings (94) [8 R&B, 21 US] was a huge success on the radio as a ballad. The next single, Rock Bottom (94) [N/A] flopped miserably but luckily the final single, When Can I See You (94) [6 R&B, 4 US] became an instant classic & 1 of his most recognized songs till this day

Although not his best album, For The Cool In You is certainly Babyface's most important in his career. Previous to this, he was a clear triple threat (sing, produce, write) but only had a select # of hits under his belt. This LP proved that he could not only make his own hits but he clearly had crossover appeal from his LP onward. For The Cool In You reached 2 on the R&B charts & 16 Billboard 200. Today, the LP is certified x3 Platinum
