Commonly found at night stands in Mong Kok, fish balls are a staple food for many local Hong Kongers. One study back in 2002 estimated daily consumption to be at 3.75 million fish balls consumed per day, or about 55 metric tons.
After tasting one, you’ll understand why — typically served on a stick and brushed with curry sauce, fish balls have a bouncy texture, and salty, umami, and mildly spicy flavor profile to make for the perfect snack.
The rise in popularity came post-World War II, after people had to find ways to make an income without having to rent out a store or pay licensing fees. You’ll find many of these vendors, known as hawkers, out on public holidays to boost their meager income when restaurants are closed.
In 2016 during Chinese New Year, the “Fishball Revolution” occurred, where the government tried to crack down on some of these unlicensed vendors. Supporters of the “localist” movement clashed with police over the perception of government authority overreach, failure to address income inequality, and future uncertainy over independence from mainland China’s influence.
Rain always gets me excited everytime. I shot this just now and today is the first day this week when the rain starting to pour. I know it’s slightly humid this week and it makes us sweat most of hours in a day.
Shadow play is one of the most fun aspects when I go out and shoot street. Hunting for that perfect lighting, camping, and just waiting for the “shot” is something I love most about street photography!
Raw and unedited! 🥰
I am so excited about my wedding this weekend. So much so that I have been freaking out and having panic attacks all week 😵 Yesterday, I had what felt like an all-day anxiety attack, and got to the point where I could not stop crying. That is until I watched @jeffreestar do a review of @kylieskin with his #Daddy
The comradery I was absorbed into had me laughing so hard I was in PAIN for the first time in days! It was everything I needed.
I can't tell you how much watching Jeffree Star reviews of products and tutorials has saved my ass for this DIY wedding. My skin looks better than it has since I was TEN YEARS OLD, and I have a perfect sassy makeup look for the big day! I'm elated for all the beautiful wedding photos I get to share with you guys. Assuming I don't panic and run away to Mexico 😅
