JACKIE HAYDEN REMEMBERS ...
“It all began with The Beatles’ first single ‘Love Me Do’”. I can still remember the feeling of exhilaration that that record gave me way back in 1962 as it roared out from the Pye Pilot radio in our family home in the parish Sandyford, then in rural Co Dublin. For weeks I trawled the airwaves, frantically hoping to hear it again. And I did and often. As Graham Greene wrote in The Power and the Glory, “There is always a moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in …”. I believe that was my moment, if perhaps a little late for childhood.Twas the first 45 I bought. I was about 15 then, and studying, allegedly, with the Christian Brothers in Synge Street in Dublin city. I was not so much a child of the sixties as a naive teenager living in what was then rural Ireland, and that blast of music turned me into a music fan for life.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Au_QW5MJNI
I bought myself a 1950's radiogram to continue on with idea that I am in fact 93 years old. It does work mostly, but I'm going to take it to be serviced by a professional restorer who'll also fit Bluetooth. Can't wait to play some old vinyls then offended everyone by blaring out BTS.
This is all your fault @mikedoubleyou
