Red pandas live in the mountains of Nepal, China and Myanmar. ❤️🧡❤️
Red pandas have fur covering the soles of their feet, which is believed to add extra insulation from the cold and help grip onto slippery, mossy branches. Prints are Now in store
ᕼᗩᑭᑭY ᑎᗩTIOᑎᗩᒪ ᑭᗩᑎᗪᗩ ᗪᗩY!! Giant Pandas are cool but I choose to celebrate the Red and original Panda on National Panda Day! Giant Pandas fortunately are increasing in the wild and have been moved from being listed as Endangered to Vulnerable. Great news! A lot of that is due to being an iconic animal that EVERYONE has heard of and wants to save! Red Pandas unfortunately don’t have that luxury. Not many people know they exist; I’ve had tons of friends and family tell me that they only know what they are because I’m obsessed with them and always post about them. Their numbers are also unfortunately decreasing and are still listed as Endangered.
Our red panda cub can be a handful for his doting mum Khela! 😍
A fast-growing red panda, 14-week-old Tashi is learning to ‘mouth’ objects, and here you can see him softly and playfully biting his mum’s ears.
Tashi is a naturally inquisitive cub, spontaneously climbing out of his nest box onto the ground below and playing with any leaves and twigs he can find. It’s still early days of Tashi’s explorations and we expect that soon Khela will start to teach him the best way to climb trees. #TakeoverTuesday – Kristin, Carnivore keeper

Hey I’m Kristin, one of the Carnivore keepers here at Auckland Zoo and today I’m taking over the zoo’s social media for #TakeoverTuesday !
As a carnivore keeper I’m lucky enough to look after a wide range of animals with diverse and unique needs – from the largest big cats to pint-sized meerkats, and everything in between.
Today I’ll be taking you behind-the-scenes with me to meet our cape porcupines Kali and Alika, and we’ll also be checking in on our inquisitive red panda cub Tashi.
If you have any questions for me, make sure to leave them in the comments below. #TakeoverTuesday – Kristin, Carnivore keeper
