  • Barrel size matters 🤓! Winemakers use 🍇 a great variety of barrels, from the smaller pièce and barrique (225 lt) to the moderately-sized Puncheon to the large Foudre (1000 - 20.000 lt). Aging a great wine in an excellent barrel improves the juice!

The ways in which barreling changes wine has to do with the surface area available 🔥. The aging is caused by the indirect result of oxygen entering the wine through the barrel.

The aging process changes depending upon how much wood (as a result oxygen) is in contact with the wine. So the bigger the wood the less oak/oxygen effect. In the end it's all about wine style 💢🍷💢!

  • what’s UP wednesday! continuing a series called “what’s up wednesday” to share wine tips, facts, & everything in between! check back every wednesday if you want to know what’s up 😉

TODAY’S #WHATSUPWEDNESDAY: crush

crush is the process grapes go through once they have arrived at the winery after harvest. to be clear: no, unfortunately, the modern crush does not involve feet, as lucille ball had us once believe (it used to, though, and yes, it is fun!). the first step once the grapes have arrived at the winery is to sort for quality on a conveyor belt, with undesirable items such as leaves, foliage, or grapes not quite up to par being removed. all of the best grapes that make the cut will then move on to be de-stemmed and crushed. many wineries use machines that automatically crush and de-stem; the grapes are crushed in a rolling barrel, moving them enough to break the skins and expose the juice and pulp. the grapes are de-stemmed in a drum, equipped with a spinning bar and paddle, that push the grapes to the walls of the drum and separate the stems from the berries. bonus fact! some winemakers may choose to not have their wines go through this process, and instead go directly into a press. press separates the juice from the skins, and ensures that the skins and stems don’t contribute to the tannins and color of a wine. many white grapes will go this route. whew! a lot goes on during crush, and in my opinion, the next step is a well deserved glass. 🍷

  • This #winewednesday I am drinking @the_liberator_wine MSG* it is 80% Mourvèdre 10% Syrah and 10% Grenache and it is a marvel. It’s from Swartland in South Africa. From Rick’s website: “Ironically, MSG’s ‘E number’ is E621. As The Liberator hits Episode 21, it’s a timely coincidence…

The wine itself comes from the new regime at Lammershoek, a winery with a reputation for its Swartland ‘Rhône’ style reds. The provisional blend was put together in September 2018, with the wine resting in tank until June 2019, when it was finally bottled.” Tasting notes: For only 10% Syrah, that grape really shines through. It’s robust with a good level of oak balanced by loads of fruit, medium to high acidity and lovely rounded tannins. It’s quite a meaty red, perfectly comforting for this chilly autumnal evening... 🍷

  • 🔥🥁 Biggest Debate ON 🥁🔥! What's your favorite pasta and wine pairing? And most importantly would you 😅 share your food or your wine? I go for the wine (please let me have the carbonara ❤️) but let's sip this delicious Primitivo 🍇 from Salento, Puglia.

A great wine from @masseriaaltemura "Sasseo 2017" 🍷 is full-bodied, warm with a silky profile. The nose has notes of dark fruits 🍒 with a herbal Mediterranean 🌿 sensation and hints of coffee and tobacco. On the palate it's juicy, with rich 💢 fruits, sweet herbs and milk chocolate, smooth tannins & an elegant finish!

Oh la la ⚡! Super value for money and you can find it online 💻! Who's a pasta lover?

"Day after day, we are immersing ourselves in the geological and climatic particular features of our plots of land and the development of our cultivars. This approach gives pride of place to understand our land and how our vine behaves and enables nature to do its work in complete peace over time."

  • Terra è il nostro rosso fermo, da uve Merlot e Cabernet,
Nato nell’ettaro di vigneto che abbiamo nella provincia di Verona, Cru San Bartolomeo.
Potatura a guyot basse rese raccolta manuale,
Vinificato con lieviti indigeni passato 4 mesi in barrique.
È un rosso fresco leggero e beverino.
