  • I wasn’t going to post today. I haven’t run since Colorado...not because I am hurt but because I’ve been busy, needed a mental break, and have had some jet lag.

But then I realized, life outside of running is going well. I don’t have anything particularly riveting to say about running and that’s ok. Sometimes you just need a few days away. Throughout the last few years I have come to believe you cannot hey hyper focused on thing.
.
Whether it’s running or another hobby, you need to be a collection of things not just one. If you only have that one hobby and it’s not going well then you have nothing to fall back or lean on.

  • 🇺🇸 As an ultra runner it’s really important to  spend time recovering so I am able to keep my body in the best possible condition... I’ve been using the Air Relax recovery boot system most days and it really makes a difference. Some of the main benefits are. 
1. Helps improve blood circulation to flush out lactic acid and waste products.
2. Helps reduce swelling and inflammation.
3. Can help improve pain threshold in muscles.
4. Can help lower risk of injury from tired muscles.

  • This is literally my view right now... My ear has so much sinus pressure that it’s killing me. The only way to alleviate the pain in to keep my right ear down. So no running for me today. Plus we have a fire burning 10min from my house so I didn’t want to venture too far away incase the wind shifts. Rough week of running for me. Only 15 miles and it’s Friday tomorrow 😭. Not how I saw this going. But rest is the only way I’m going to kick this. So rest I will...as hard as it is. At least I have the @patriots to watch.

  • In January of this year, I made the commitment to finally stick to a regular workout routine.  I signed up for the local YMCA since it included childcare.  I took a kettlebell class the Saturday after the new year.  I didn’t have any crazy resolutions.  I just wanted to work out and feel good.  Ever since taking that first class- I have managed to workout an average of 5-6 days every week since then. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

My workouts don’t always include a class or actually going to the gym.  It could be yoga, weights at home, a walk, or bike ride.  I sometimes have a hard time sticking with things- I start off strong but then fizzle out after a few weeks.  I’m not even sure exactly what made this “stick” this time.  But for some reason, 7 months later, and I’ve still managed to keep up with this lifestyle. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

This week was tough since I’ve had a cold since this past weekend.  Even my husband told me- you need to stop working out- let your body rest.  So I rested Sunday, and then Monday I was back at it.  And guess what happened?  My cough was even worse the next day.  I’m not sure that I’m ready to tell him he was right yet!  But he was right- my body needed to rest- so I took the rest of the week to rest- no gym, no workouts, no long walks.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

I’m finally starting to feel better and was glad that I was able to give my body the time that it needed to recuperate.  I don’t think I necessarily have a fear of gaining weight from not working out.  I think that what I get most fearful about is “losing” the habits that I’ve formed since I don’t remember the last time I was able to stick to this lifestyle for so long.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

Now that I’m feeling better- I’ve planned out my “workouts” through the weekend and written them on my planner so it’s still important and I have carved out the time to go.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣

I would love to hear, How do you fit in rest days or take time off from your normal workout routine without having those fears that you won’t be able to get back into the swing of things once you are back on the mend?⁣⁣⁣

  • HOW DO YOU WORK OUT AT SCHOOL?
Well, my school has a small gym with weights and machines. I enjoy going to the gym, but sometimes I just don’t have time to walk all the way there. I am a BIG fan of working out in the morning so I don’t have to do it later, but whenever you can fit in a workout is best. This google doc is full of exercises from amazing influencers like @fitnessblender @krissycela @ashleigh_jordan @whitneyysimmons and some of my own! Most of these exercises DO NOT require equipment and can easily be done inside my dorm room!
Here’s what my split looks like:

MONDAY: Cardio/HIIT day! ~1 hour

TUESDAY & THURSDAY: Core! ~45-60 minutes

WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY: Legs! ~50-60 minutes

SATURDAY: Upper Body (as I get stronger, I’m planning on doing upper body Thursday and Saturday, replacing one core day) ~45-60 minutes

SUNDAY: Rest Day! Sometimes I do yoga or go on a short run, buuuuut usually I just do homework or watch Netflix all day!

I am a BIG fan of working out in the morning so I don’t have to do it later, but whenever you can fit in a workout is best. Most of these exercises DO NOT require equipment and can easily be done inside my dorm room!
