March 5, 2017 - another self-imposed ‘condition’ we have on these trips is to have a meal each day at a roadside park or small town park. We’ve talked of rating roadside parks but like this account and the fact I’m writing about events more than two years ago, procrastination is our ultimate strength. After visiting the CO/NE/WY tripoint we headed south to Fort Morgan for some refreshment and then headed east; I believe this park is in Akron, Colorado. Our day ended in Burlington, Colorado, as we worked our way south down the High Plains. #greatamericanroadtrip#exploreamerica#smalltownusa#roadtripusa#roadsideamerica

An old, abandoned motel along Route 66 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Interesting how many rooms came with their own garage.
The World's Largest Pistachio, McGinn's PistachioLand, along U.S. 54 between Alamogordo and Tularosa, NM "There are plenty of large, man-made oddities that people can find throughout the world. There's the world's largest baked potato in Blackfoot, Idaho, the world's biggest buffalo in Jamestown, N.D., a larger-than-life hockey stick and puck in Duncan, British Columbia, and a mammoth lobster in Shediac, New Brunswick. Now you can add the World's Largest Pistachio in Otero County to the list." - JournalGazette.net
Love pistachios? Check out McGinn's PistachioLand. They offer farm tours of pistachio orchards and have a store where you can buy pistachios, pistachio wine, t-shirts and much more.
