  • @armyinlondon Although Her Majesty The Queen’s 93rd birthday fell on Easter Sunday, 21st April, in keeping with tradition, Gun Salutes are never fired on a Sunday, so the Birthday Salute was performed on Easter Monday, the 22nd April, in London.
HRH The Princess Royal was guest of honour of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, and accompanied the Commanding Officer Major Harry Wallace as he inspected his Gunners prior to them riding out of Wellington Barracks to perform a 41 Gun Royal Salute. As HRH The Princess Royal arrived in Hyde Park with the Commanding Officer in the Royal Artillery Carriage, the Royal Artillery Band played a selection of celebratory music close to the firing position. 71 horses pulling six First World War 13 pounder Field Guns then dramatically came into action from the Marble Arch end of the Park and placed the guns into position for the Royal Salute halfway down Park Lane. On the word of command each of the six guns fired blank artillery rounds at ten-second intervals until forty-one shots had been fired. Thousands of tourists and visitors gathered to witness and photograph the event which was bathed in sunshine and almost Mediterranean heat. The horses and riders then collected the guns and escorted them back to Wellington Barracks in Birdcage Walk. #gunsalute #happybirthday #yourarmyneedsyou #royalartillery #boom #banging #bigbang #ubique #royal #horse #artillery #kingstroop
