The winning gardens of Chelsea Flower Show 2019 have been announced. These include the Gold, Silver Gilt, Silver and Bronze Medal awards. Medals are awarded in each garden category, which include Show Gardens, Artisan Gardens and Space to Grow Gardens.
This year's Gold Medal-winners include Mark Gregory's Welcome to Yorkshire garden, who's design this year was inspired by the canals and waterways of Yorkshire and featured a fully-functioning lock. The M&G Garden also won Gold, by eight-time Gold Medal-winning designer Andy Sturgeon.
We were lucky enough to be invited to Chelsea yesterday evening. There were some inspiring gardens as always but none more so than this one, the D-Day 75 garden. It was designed to mark the 75th anniversary of the Normandy landings on 6th June 1944 and invites us to reflect on those events, along with this elderly and decorated veteran, Bill Pendell. He was supposed to be there in this garden in person but he sadly passed away in December last year. This wonderful statue in the grounds of the Royal Chelsea Hospital is carved from a single piece of stone. In the garden there is also an amazing installation made of metal washers, suggesting soldiers landing on the beaches (pic 3). There’s a silent contemplation going on in the second pic @brickpet . It’s hard not to be moved by this garden. #chelseaflowershow2019#dday75#royalhospitalchelsea#london
